HELP NEEDED - Itinerary

I am visiting India for about 16 days in the end og february and was thinking of doing the following route - by air except from the delhi-agra-delhi trip. Does it sound to optimistic? Do any of you know if there is a plain connection from either Varanasi or Khajuraho to Udaipur?

Delhi
Agra (+ Fathepur Sikri?)
Delhi
Varanasi
Khajuraho
Udaipur
Delhi

THANKS!

- Nora from Norway

lol you must be rich to be doing all these routes by air !!

go to this ^^^^^^^^ paeg and on the lower rght side click on "schedule" and you will know all answers. where as i am sure delhi has a connection to varanasi, khajuraho and udaipur, i am not so sure that udaipur, varanasi and khajuraho are themselves interconnected.

Train instead?

Not really! But do you think I can make this route by train? Or parts of it? My schedule is rather tight, that´s why I was thinking of going by plain in the first place. This is my first first visit to India and I would like to see as much as possible without rushing... Thanx for the link anyway.

Not against trains at all -

I am arriving in New Delhi on the 24th of february where i will be meeting up with my sister on the 25th. Return to Norway: 13th of March.

A lot of people recommended us to go to Udaipur instead of jaipur. Have you been both places? Which one should I give priority to?

udaipur is the "nicer" and prettier place. almost a fairy tale city, built around a lake and nestled amidst the aravalli hills.

jaipur has more historical - monuments, palaces and forts. reeks of history, touts and some filth.

dont miss either.

give me some time - like 15 mins - i'll try to cook you an itenerary. though 15 days is peanuts if you want to see india. takes about 3-4 months for a once over.

25th = see delhi. book a "conducted trip" for giving delhi "the once over". same night take train 2562 (SWATANTRATA EXPRESS) to varanasi. try the higher class (more comfy) if you do not get tickets in sleeper class. varanasi is great, but VERY dirty.

26 = reach about 8.30 in the morning. see varanasi.

27 = see varanasi. see sarnath. once you decide on this plan, you can find out about the "places of interest" in each city. there are loads of websites. i'll give you links.

28 = take indian airlines flight ic7404 at 4.30 in the afternoon to khajuraho. (90$)

1 = see khajuraho.

2 = see khajuraho. there are loads of temples.

3 = go to orcha about 15 kms off jhansi. see orcha (sunset and stuff)

4 = see orcha. at evening 6.05 take "delhi shatabdi express" train no. = 2001. to arrive at agra at 10 at night. immediately check into hotel.

5 = next day before sunrise head for the taj mahal. see the taj. see the agra fort.

6 = go to "fateh pur sikri". see the whole place and come back to agra. there dont seem to be any night trains - those you can get into at night so as to get deposited at your destination early next morning(like your delhi - varanasi train). so i suggest you take a luxury bus. there should be a lot of them available. i'll find out and let you know.

7 = early morning reach jaipur. see jaipur with the help of a Rajasthan State Tourism Development Corporation (RSTDC) "conducted trip".

8 = see jaipur on your own. at night 10 o'clock take "LAKE CITY EXPRESS" (9765) to udaipur. at 7.30ish in the morning you should be there. see udaipur.

9 = see udaipur. go to chitor (its got asia's biggest fort. MINDBLOWING). go to mt. abu, which is a lovely hill station very close to udaipur.

10 = see mt .abu. see the dilwara temples (kick ass). (i'll give you details of how to go to mt abu, chitor etc later)

11 = go straight to ranakpur. see temples and come back to udapur.

12 = take flight INDIAN AIRLINES ic-7472 back to delhi. (115$). starts at 10.25 and reaches delhi at 1.25 in the afternoon. see some delhi places.

13 = see more delhi. leave at night.

does your sis stay here in india? (like been working for an year or something). that would help.

Hi!

Thank you so much, I will have to look more into your itinerary tonight - my sister is going to kerala to do fieldwork in a couple of days, but I guess that makes no difference... Do you know a good, clean and cheap hotel in Delhi?

I would say that 16 days is the perfect amount of time, though you could go to both Jaipur & Udaipur and still have enough time.

Delhi - Varanasi

I would suggest train 2562 on the 26th.

New Delhi 20:40, Varanasi 08:45.

1A = Rs 2395
2A = Rs 1272
3A = Rs 826
SL = Rs 313

Varanasi - Khajuraho

I would suggest flight 9W333 (Jetair $90), on 1st March -- Varanasi 12:20, Khajuraho 13:00.

Khajuraho – Agra + Fatehpur Sikri

I would suggest flight CD7408 (Alliance air $90), on 4th March -- Khajuraho 15:50, Agra 16:30.

Agra - Jaipur

0n 6th. Either train 4853 (Agra Fort 06:20, Jaipur 14:00) or train 2315 (Agra Fort 11:20, Jaipur 18:17)

Jaipur - Udaipur

I would suggest flight CD7471 (Alliance air $90), on 8th March-- Jaipur 18:10, Udaipur 20:00.

Udaipur - Delhi

I would suggest flight 9W3318 (Jetair $115), on 12th March-- Udaipur 13:35, Delhi 15:05.

Lake City Express will not run from Feb 1st. (Gauge conversion)

I think you missed a day somewhere, arrive in Udaipur, see Udaipur, go to & see Chittaurgarh fort, then go to Mt. Abu, all in one day?

i didnt knwo that the lake city express has stopped running, temporarily or permanently.
i guess she will have to fly the jaipur-udaipur leg too, or take a night bus. the road is excellent for the most part.

no i didnt miss a day. i wrote "see udaipur" twice back to back and added the "go to mt abu" on the wrong day!! . it should have been

well, if you're doing it by air, get a tourist pass. http://www.jetairways.com/Cultures/e...t+India+Fares/ it's pricey as hell, and you don't get the TRUE INDIAN EXPERIENCE of riding the train, but if you're going for a long time, you won't spend majority of your trip in transit. thing is, you're staying within a reigon, so i say, train it all the way. you'll be able to make it. it's just when you're going for a month doing the delhi-kolkata-chennai-mumbai thing (with stops in tons of little towns), the airpass would be best. but, of course, when you're going by air, you have to at least do a few train trips to truly get a feel for india.

and of course nora, factor in a few days for getting accustomed to india, and in case you catch the wrong train because believe me, it's gonna happen.
