Help, First time to India.

Hi, my boyfriend and I are traveling to India for the first time.
I'm a little worried that we are trying to pack too much into our trip.
I would really appreciate some help and any suggestions.
We have 20days From 14th Dec till 2nd of Jan.
The only things/places we would like to see in particular are: Rishikesh, Udaipur, kerala area for wildlife and houseboats. (I would of loved to see Varanasi though with our time restrictions thought Hadiwar was a good compromise to see the Ganges.)
We have left the 12day Kerala leg of our trip quite open to bump around the area. Wild life activity and relax.

1. 5am arrive Dehli. (Would like to get straight out of Dehli and head up to Haidwar. I have heard there is a 4h express train from Dehli. Stay the night in Hadiwar.
2. Travel up to Rishikesh stay the night
3. Rishikesh
4. one day to be ill, rest or unexpected lengthy travel.
5. travel back to Hadiwar and then Dehli. Flight to Udaipur
6. Udaipur
7. Udaipur
8. Udipur, fly to the south. Stay in Combatore
9. Combatore, stay with friend.
10. Combatore travel to coastal area to do kerala back waters.
11. Kerala back waters
12.Kerala back waters (this will be x-mas day)
13.Kerala travel to area with wildlife, could stop off some where?
14.National park/wildlife. Any suggestions of a great wildlife sanctuary in Kerala?
15.National park/wildlife.
16.Varkala or kochi or another great place in the area.
17.?
18. ?(31st new years eve)
19.?
20. Fly to Bangalore to connect to international flight back to Australia.

Other than x-mas I am struggling to find any great festivals in the Rajastan/ Kerala area between 14th Dec and 2nd Jan. I would be happy to change our itinerary if there was something really great on.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

wELCOME

sOME TIPS...
Do you like water fall and stay in asmall forest area? Then
If you travel from Comimbature to Kerala Kochin(By Train) there is a water fall and nice small hotels to stay which is called athirappilly , vazhachal.. and travel to kochi or you can directly go Kochi stay there and

from Kochi Wild life place called thekkady it is nice .. a lot of hotels and nice forest area
there tea plantation from that location/./

It is better is like this...
from Kochi you can Go Thekkady (wild life) there is a lake if you are lucky you can see elhephants...... and back to aleppy back water tourism,, from Aleppy if you travel by boat (instead of train ) to Kollam it will be nice feeling.. So you can save one day and you can reach kollam.
varkala is nice place BUT KOVALAM ALSO celebrative area on new year event or XMAS EVEENT.. VARKALA ALSO EDEVELOPING..
WE ARE IN KOCHI AND WORKING HERE ask s if you have any more queries... softeye@rediffmail.com
Nice and warm welcome...

There is this lovely village called Kumbalanghi where there are several homestays. You are just 15 km from Kochi, but in a village near the backwaters. And you get to see non-touristy Kerala.
