Hello. Goa-Sri Lanka?

Hi there,

My name is cas im 22 nearly 23 and really want to go to india this summer. This is why i have joined this forum. I am in uni (bangor) doing zoology with conservation and need to escape before student loan repayments stop me. Has anyone here travelled from goa to sri lanka as thats what i would like to do?

Cheers, and happy new year..

Air Lanka has a direct flight Goa - Colombo, but I suspect you can do it cheaper by taking a Goa - Trivandrum flight and then buying another ticket for Trivandrum - Colombo.

Moved ehh? Wouldn't this post make more sense in Crossing the Border?

Heheh That's where it was for a bit (moved from another sub-forum again); it will finally depend on does poster need advice on a scenic or pleasurable route from Goa to the south and onwards to Sri Lanka, or does s/he just intend to get there. It's not very clear from the question.

Hi,

This is the idea, Fly from the UK to goa. Stay in gao a couple weeks or less depending on how long it takes to take a scenic rout to sri lanka. I know there are trains and roads that lead to a ferry but its the detailes i lack. If anyone has been on a simmiler adventure and can just give me some loose figures, ie, costs, duration of trip. Or any places to see on the way down or places to avoid. Are there any 'established back packers' routes. Is there any modes of transport which are better than others for whatever reason, moterbike or care hire? How frequent are the ferry crossings etc etc.

Sorry to bombared you with a million questions but feel free to add more. I havent travelled before so im unsure of all the deatials.

Cheers

I'd strongly suggest picking up some decent guide books which will answer the basics to most if not all of the above, then be back to go over the specifics. You can pick up a free outdated copy from the library, the general info doesn't change much.

Ahem, does zoology not require some spelling or general logic skills these days?

Anyway, never mind. It's just a general observation that paying some attention to your presentation may help you in getting your answers. Yes, just go with any of the big ones I'd say, or get a couple and compare them. Again, you can go with some outdated editions at first, then when you make up your mind and the date approaches buy a recent one if so desired.

All of this is pretty self-explanatory really. See also this useful thread How to get the most out of the Itinerary section.

We're now on post #10 of this thread and it hasn't progressed much further, as you're not providing anyone with much to go on. It can be a very helpful site with generally very friendly people if you give some personal input and are willing to do some of your own basic research. Goa to Sri Lanka? Sure, can be done, any which way you please. And no, you won't by far be the first to do so. If this is your first trip like this and/or it's a spur of the moment thing and you think you can do it without any legwork of your own, you may be in for a surprise though.

Aside from guidebooks, look around this site some btw, you'll find many answers are already there.

If you think this all sounds harsh, what's frustrating is it's an interesting proposition and I'm convinced members here would be able to answer you if you came up with more specific questions.

Well thanks for the your reply and the general advice on how to use the forum . Yes you are right in saying zoology does involve some basic logic but thats not what i asked is it.

This is the first forum i have ever joined where everyone is on my back. The thread is all muddled up because the mods merged all my posts together as they all follow the same subject. Whats the big deal? Im not going to ask for advice on lots of trips if i only plan on one in perticuler.

I introduced myself and briefly mentioned my plan and the mods moved the thread to the border crossing section or something, then later i found a forum sub section purely on goa and posted there and i got a warning!

Yes (except I didn't notice much of everyone being so); or you might turn that around and consider that some people are trying to direct your questions so that you might actually receive some answers.

I'm reminded of that story of a guy who's looking for his lost key in the light. Asked what he's looking for, he explains I lost it in the dark over there. So why are you looking for it here? Because here I can see at least.

Ferry? To Sri Lanka? There has not been a ferry from anywhere in India to Sri Lanka for at least 20 years. Occasionally there is some rumour about a ferry starting again but it just never happens. Flying is your only option.
