Hello, how are you?
This will be me and my friends first time in India. We are keeping many options open as we have found, in the past, our itinerary's have gone boobs up. So, I'll keep it simple - we are travelling from Calcutta (sorry for the westernization) to Manali. We land in Calcutta on the 4th august. We then plan to go to Agra. After Agra we will travel to Jaipur and do some travelling in Rajasthan. Then we travel to Manali. After Manali we plan to enter Nepal. Our dates are as follows: 4th august - 16th October Here is my question bank: Any suggestions on places to visit along this route? Best way to travel: bus, coach or train? Any other suggestions about anything? We have spent nearly 2 years working in Guangzhou, China so, we would like to stay away from cities for a period of more than two days. I know this is a brief posting so I will provide any extra information needed. For those who post information your advice will be most appreciated. Have fun. Mod note: Font size reduced for my safety, it hit me in the face Last edited by capt_mahajan : May 28th, 2008 at 13:33. Reason: reduced font size |

I was thinking about Varanasi but read on this site it is better to go to Rishikesh. Varanasi is on the way so I like the ethos of 'why not'. How long do you think would be enough time to spend there?

I don't like Varanasi much myself, but I guess you could easily spend 2/3 days there.
And I would keep at least 3 days for Delhi; more if I was interested in history. |

Thanks for the advice. Do you know of other places along the route: Kolkata - Manali?

Gaya and Allahabad will probably be on your train route from Kolkata to Agra.
