Have I forgotten anything? we go soon???
Well December but being here makes it seem sooner...
I am a begginer and this will only be our 3rd visit so... Fly Manchester to Delhi then bus/ taxi to Agra stay there for 3 days see the sights. Fly Dehli Goa.(Thanks Steve....we are doing that) Stay there for a few nights. Pop down to Agonda chill a bit... Train from Margao to Hospet (yes SL!!!) bus to Hampi stay there a 2 nights. Somehow work out how to get back to Hospet from over the river and catch the train back to Goa ... stay there a few more nights. Fly from Goa to Mumbai long stop over in Abu Dhabi see something of there...then home to Manchester...... If any one can see something that needs work or a flaw in any of this please tell me as I am so embroiled in all this planning that the obvious may be evading me..... Thanks... ![]() Last edited by Ali-Monbeam : Apr 27th, 2008 at 16:46. |

Why not fly Delhi to Goa?
or if you must go via Mumbai, get an overnight train to Raichur, then a bus to Hospet/Hampi, then on to Goa later, or the same going the other way...Mumbai-Goa-Hampi-Raichur-Mumbai. Or better still, Delhi-Goa-Hampi-Raichur-Mumbai.

Interesting. Would Raichur be a good destination Steve, or just a handy connection point? Hadn't heard of it, looks like it might have something to offer though from some quick searching.

The bus stand is just over 1km north (and slightly east) of the train station, I found it using google earth. As usual though, I changed my plan and didn't go to Raichur/Hampi. |

I see. I was looking at http://raichur.nic.in/places.htm#draichur , among others. Could be an interesting off-beat destination; remains to be seen in what state of (dis-) repair all that is of course.
I've a feeling somehow you'd love Hampi, or the sights rather than the scene in any case. Well, I'm sure it's still on your list. |

It would be difficult not to enjoy the place after reading Beach's amazing thread on Hampi. But I wonder, have the Goan cowboys become active in Hampi? I'd be surprised if they hadn't. |

My polite way of describing those involved at every level in tourism in certain places in Goa, these people don't even attempt to give you decent prices, they just multiply the price by 4 then refuse to come down a bit, as most tourists in Goa are package tourist, they get away with it, but it can be extremely fri=ustrating for anyone who knows the real prices.
Impossible to say, try turning left when the tourists turn right. Actually, it's not really the tourists who are at fault, to me, it's a combination of tourists happy to pay way over the odds, and touts happy to charge way over the odds, an awful combination. |

I hate being herded to the 'sights'
when we first went were 'package tourists' and found that the best thing we did was take of those awful wrist bands the hotel gave us. We then found that taxis and shops were much more flexible and nice to deal with. Our last visit was even better staying at lower costing places and getting a scooter was so much better, learning the odd word too made us accepted better too. There will always be those who just want to stay around the beach and hotel pool and stick to the sterotypical tourist view that Indians have of us. |
