Hi Guys
Interesting thread. Your discussion is pretty far advanced - but this might help.... http://www.4x4abc.com/4WD101/difference_4WD_awd.html Its explains the difference between 4WD and AWD, and why AWD is not as good a full time or part time 4 wheel drive. Even then without diff locks its still possible to get stuck in your 4wd (have done that a few times). |

You mean to say that a car with 4WD capabilities would have the same weight as the same car without 4WD capabilities...??

Infact i just read the Scorpio specs...it has a Modern CRDI engine, however the difference is 100 kg between a 4WD and 2WD only car..

thats what one is trying to say.... if you compare , hypothetically, a car with a 4WD option fitted with one which does not (both being same models), then its not a fair comparion because one of them is inherently heavy...so dont compare it to a 2WD , compare it to another 4 WD.....

It's perfectly ok to compare 2wd to 4wd for both the capital investment and the running costs, after all at least the extra investment needs to be worth it. Unless one is like those guys puchoo mentioned who wud probably engage 4wd to go to Sohna
. BUT, 100 kg is not going to make a big dent in the pocket - seems Mahindra was BS'ing me. After all that dealer only sells Bolero and wud obviously like me to buy from them. ![]() |

Puchoo, the comparison we were making was if it was worthy enough to invest the money in a 4 WD..and there are various factors being evaluated..

there should be a solid reason for going in for a 4WD...if there is- then the genuine buyer would not consider a 2 WD....

yes and the single most important one being.... how much does one needit...?? what is the amount of driving involved per year on roads which warrant a 4 WD....?....
....and it seems a logical decision....except that there seem to be enough buyers around whose sole decision for buying a 4 WD is to possibly boast about it and have a big 4 X 4 sticker at the back.... and then they complain...?? |

No, I don't. The 4WD will weigh more because of additional components. We were talking about fuel efficiency there. A 4WD is not necessarily less fuel efficient than a 2WD.

Apologies,ks, we did seem to get carried away with the 2WD v/s 4WD issue. WRT your post #46, Spiti Valley is definitely worth visiting. So the route could be Keylong - Gramphoo - Chhatru - Kaza - Sumdo - Puh - Rekong Peo - Rampur - Sainj, from where you may go to Manali or to Shimla.
