yep. 4.2 litre, six cylinder (non-turbo)diesel engine, coil sprung suspension with gas shocks and stabilizers back and front, disk brakes all round, manual locking hubs (unfortunately no diff locks - but could have got them fitted).

Scorpio or Bolero: yes, any day.

Dilli, BB and Others:

First I need to apologise, I meant to post (the Nepali drivers Scorpio Reco) on GHRT; but by mistake I seem to have done it on GIRT If possible, some MOD can move these last few posts to GHRT .... and while he/she is at it also change the Title of that thread to GHiRT (to keep Dilliwalla Happy ).

Yes, Power Steering is a must! Scorpio has that. Also Nepali driver said has good AC (both heating and cooling if we need that).

BTW: want to reiterate that GHRT is still a dream ... (but then so was GIRT two years ago and now its done and over...except for GIRT2).

But it looks like GHRT is fast moving on fast .... as a favorite dream for many, including the Nepali Driver who fell for it... when I told him how Grand a Himalayan journey it was! Starting from Kashmir, then Ladakh, HP, Uttaranchal, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Arunachal ... maybe 4 months long? The dream is growing bigger, by the day.

As for others joining GHRT more or are welcome .... in fact we can have a carvan of vehicles if more join.... so long as we are all compatible in companion-ship and tour-objectives. That can be decided only after a proper personal Meet-Up and detailed interactions; to see if we really like each other enough to stick together over a long journey. I am thinking the upcomimg Ranikhet Meet-UP will be one of those starting point for those interactions.

- KS

PS to MODS: Please move these all posts since my previous one to this one .... to the GHRT (GHiRT) thread .... soon

Sure I will. If possible attend the Ranikhet Meet-Up (its for all IMers from anywhere) .... planned tentatively for 1st June 2008 ... but that date might change (maybe 10-15 days later)

Actually, HT Brunch Editor called me a few months ago (after seeing my Blog Page, I guess) and wanted to know if I can write some Travel articles & stuff for their weekend paper ... I was not too keen to do that; but I said they could use material & pics from my Blog to write their own story if they wanted to, about retirement, treks, road-trips etc.

OK I will see it .... but the cybercafe here (in Darjeeling) is real slow and that page is not loading down so far.

I hope not too famous! GHiRT is just a dream as of now. Every body is welcome (Bombay people, Extra Welcome) But how are you working youngsters going to get such a long leave for GHiRT ?

Yes all IM-ers are welcome to that Meet! I dont know if any IMer lives in Ranikhet ... if there is, he-she could be the Organiser Tentatively 1st June was discussed (with Dilliwalla)... but that may get postponed by 2-3 weeks, depending on the right window, for the Roopkund trek, that I am hoping to do then.

I work for myself, and from my home itself..taking long breaks would not be a major problem for me...albeit I have to plan in advance, especially the finance part

PS : Btw..if DW is attending the meetup, I am sure he can give lift to some members from Delhi in his SUV..
