Gaya to Khajuraho
Gaya to Khajuraho
what is the easiest/cheapest way of getting to Khajuraho from Gaya? Is taking a taxi from Satna or Jhansi inescapable?

Gaya is often thought of as a dangerous place, especially after dark.
Anyway.
Train 2175 (M, W, Th.) and train 2177 (Sa.) depart Gaya at 01.30and get to Mahoba at 12.50 (2A, 3A, SL.)
So the train on 'Sunday night' would be 2175's Monday departure.
Mahoba is the closest station to Khajuraho, it's about 3 hours by bus.
There is a daily train from Patna (19.55) to Satna (05:10), this seems like a good way to avoid the awful departure time from Gaya.
One more thing, Khajuraho will soon have a train station, a line is being built from Mahoba to Khajuraho, the line is supposed to be finished up to 11kms from Khajuraho, and this finished section was supposed to be opened last Thursday by the railway minister, but I've not seen any news about this, despite searching every day.
The rail budget is next Tuesday, and the rail minister will want that line open before then, so it will either be open, or there will be an announcement about it in the budget, there has been talk of trains from Khajuraho and Varanasi (as well as Agra/Delhi), if the train from Varanasi to Khajuraho is an overnight train, this would be a better way to get to Khajuraho from Gaya.
I will update the following thread as soon as I get any info about the Khajuraho train.
New train/route updates.
