Gangotri and Hemkunt sahib Yatra

[font="Arial Black"]Hi all,

Bunch of friends are going to Gangotri, hemkunt sahib, Badrinath. We are going by bikes and we have total 8 days. My itinerary looks like this :

  • Day 1 : Delhi - Dehradoon - Mussoorie - barkot- Dharasu - Uttarkashi.
  • OR
  • Day 1 Delhi - Haridwar - Rishikesh - Chamba - Uttarkashi.
  • Day 2 Uttarkashi - Gangotri - Uttarkashi - Lambgaon - Peepal Dali - Shrinagar.
  • Day 3 Shrinagar - Govindghat - Govindham(ghangaria)
  • Day 4 Govindham - Hemkunt sahib - Govindham
  • Day 5 Govindham - VOF(valley of flowers) - Govindghat - Badrinath
  • Day 6 Badrinath - mana - Shrinagar.
  • Day 7 Shrinagar - Ponta Sahib.
  • Day 8 Ponta sahib - Delhi.
I have few questions :-
  1. On day 1 which route is better and scenic?
  2. While coming back from Gangotri does any 1 know the way which connects in gopeshwar via chopta(not sure), is this route recomended. IF yes then will we be able to reach Joshimath or govindghat from gangotri in a single day?
  3. VOF is how far from Ghangaria? Is it possible to visit VOF and return directly to Govindghat and then Badrinath?

Please suggest.

Regards,

Manpreet Singh

For the trip to Uttarkashi why take the Barkot Dharasu route which is the longest of the three routes into Uttarkashi from D.dun. You could come from D.dun to Mussoorie - Kempty up to Nainbagh from there take the Banchaura, Badethi route to Uttarkashi. It is a very beautiful drive and shortest from D.dun. Any way it is a lot of driving that you intend to do on Day one. People manage it but by the time they reach Uttarkashi they are completely washed out. Better split the drive into two days it is safer that way. This drive yo upropose will at least take 12 hours minimum and I am not including any stops.

Again too ambitious to be done in one day. You should split it into Uttarkashi - Gangotri - Uttarkashi first day and Uttarkashi - Rudraprayag the second day.

The rest of your itinerary also look too packed in and not very feasible. It seems like you just want to go to these places to mark on a list of places visited and not enjoyed. Please rethink your itinerary extend your trip by 2 - 3 days or cut out a couple of places. If you want to do Hemkunta Sahib and VOF then cut out Gangotri altogether and do Badrinath instead.
Paonta Sahib you can visit on your way up from Delhi into Dehradun rather than on your way back. You can break journey there and then continue the next day to Uttarkashi.
But my advice is rethink the places that you absolutely must visit and enjoy your trip instead of just running from one place to another.

Bro, i have asked my friend and he said the route you told me is kinda kacha road(off road). During August month it would be very hard to drive in kacha road bcuz of rain. Please confirm.

While coming back from Uttarkashi which route is better from the following two?

1 - Uttarkashi - CHARANGIKHAL - LAMBAGAON - PEEPALDALI -MALETHA - SRINAGAR.

2 - Uttarkashi - dharasu - Chamba - Tipri- Pipal Dali- Gadolia Kandikhal - Maletha - Srinagar.

Well I just took that route a week back (and this was not the first time I have done that route) the road is better than the other two has been freshly tarred all the way and was still being tarred in a short stretch when I returned back. The Chamba Kamand route is terrible they are widening the road (why they didn;t do that when they were initially building the road is beyond my understanding specially as the road is not too old) and it has all the yatra traffic on it. Nainbagh-Banchaura is certainly not a sort of kachcha road as your friend suggests and hasn't been for over four years that I have lived around here, obviously his information is quite dated.
as for Uttarkashi - Srinagar, the first route is definitely the better and shorter one. As you and your friends are anyways planning to rush around from one place to another, best take the shortest routes and this is the shortest!
