Gangaikonda cholapuram
Hi,
Am new to this site. Its a wonderful site. I am posting this query for the first time and hope the inmates of the site will help me. I am planning for a trip to visit Gangaikonda cholapuram. I am basically from Trissur. I need a complete itinerary for my travel. I am travelling with one of my friend and we opt for a road travel by bus becasue we dont have time to book the train tickets. We are planning to travel this weekend. Can you please give me a detail itinerary for our travel from Cochin to Gangaikonda Cholapuram. We can have a stay at Chidambaram and Kumbakonam. Awaiting the responses Thanks and Regards Anil (AK) |

Hi Anil,
Synonymous one of our IM members had earlier posted his tour experience. Please check the below for exciting inputs and firts hand expereinces. Along with Gangaikonda Cholapuram, he has posted details of other places visited by him. I am sure this would be of help. http://www.indiamike.com/india/tamil...lapuram-t58823 Regards, Raghu Quote:

Anil, I have posted essentially the same report but in more detail and with photographs at http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog...re/7/tpod.html For travelling details by bus, I think that PM Velu, N Kumar and others can provide better details. Gangaikondacholapuram is about 45 min by car from Kumbakonam. We hired a car from Chennai for the entire trip. If you are going to Kumbakonam, do visit Darasuram which is just 3km away. In my opinion it was even better than GangaiKCPM, with much more of an 'ambience' in a smaller scale. But do visit both places and as many more as you can of the Cauvery delta's exquisite heritage sites. I wish I could spend at least a month there which would not be enough to see it all.

Thanks to all for the replies.
But these itinerary are all from Chennai. I really need from Cochin or Thrissur. I have a plan to go to coimbatore and then to GangaiKCPM. Please tell me if there is any other easy route. As someones tag shows, I am leaving on this coming tuesday. Awaiting the responses. Thanks and Regards AK |

I think the closest railway station to Gangaikonda would be Neyveli, alternately if you can get a bus to Kumbakonam, it is not far from there either.
But, Im really not the right person to advise on how to get there. Suggest you post on the Tamil Nadu forum with a specific query how to get there from Coimbatore. See here for buses from Coimbatore to Neyveli, Coimbatore to Chidambaram etc. http://www.arctours.in/news.aspx?id=...3-384139d65ebf |

@Anil,
From Coimbatore , Get Jan-Shatabdi Express [Train #2084 Dep:07:00 Arr @ Kumbakonam 12:15] --> Fastest and best option for this circuit [ This train runs all days except Tuesday] In Bus, it will take around 8 hours at the least ! Velu |
