First timer - Himachal Pradesh - Punjab - Rajasthan - c. 4 weeks

Hi all, I am hoping that you will be able to help.

My wife and I (both late twenties) will be visiting India for the first time in September and are struggling to design a suitable itinerary. We would like to travel by a combination of train and car/driver and, as our student days are behind us, will have a reasonable budget.

We are looking to spend around 4 weeks in the North West of India and would like to design an itinerary starting and finishing in Delhi to take in the following places (amongst others):

Amristar
Dharamsala
Jaisalmer
Jodphur
Pushkar
Udaipur
Jaipur
Agra

Does anyone have any good suggestions of a suitable route and possible timings for a 4 week trip? How is it best to get from place to place? Anywhere not mentioned above that we would be nuts to miss out?
