First time travel itinerary South India

Hi,

We've never been to India and are trying to cram a fair amount in our 3 week trip but would be grateful for some advice...

Itinerary we are looking at is:
Mubai (2 nights: Hotel Godwin)
Mumbai to Goa (Train: 0850 - 1925) - is it scenic?!)
Palolem (1 night)
Cola Beach - Goa(4 nights)
Goa to Calicut (overnight)then onto Wayanad
Visimayagiri homestay (Wayanad - 2 NIGHTS)
Mysore (3 nights)
Mysore - Cochi (Bus and train via Bangalore)
Cochi (2 nights)
Varkala (2 nights)
Allepy homestay (1 night)
Backwaters (1 night)
Aleppy - Chennai (1 night)
Pondicherry (1 night)
Chennai FLY HOME

Should we be trying to fit in Hampi? Are we missing much by not seeing Ooty?

Thanks!
Amy

You are not missing anything by missing ooty. I find your trip has to be slightly changed. I will come back later regarding this.

Is your long haul booked already? I ask because you seem to go over to the eastern coast for not much more than your flight home. If it's not fixed yet your could look into flying back from Cochin or Trivandrum. Or from Bangalore, putting Mysore / Hampi at the end of your trip.
I am not a fan of Ooty, but I absolutely loved going up there on the toy train!
If it were me I would limit the beach locations to one (either Goa or Varkala) and rather fit in Hampi - but it would eat up quite a bit of your time.

Amy, like Baba mentioned in the post above, you could skip Varkala and use that time to visit Hampi. In that case Goa --> Hampi --> Bangalore --> Mysore --> Wayanad --> Kochi (via Calicut) would be the way to go

You are diffently not missing much skiping ooty but it is very much if you miss hampi.
I advice you to go to hampi from goa, then take this route bangalor-mysore-wyanad-kochi-pondi-home. This is because from calicut to kochi is just 224 kms but you will be travelling around 1200kms by following your route.
