Feb Honeymoon in India - Destinations?

Hello everyone!

I have been to India once before, a few years ago and I went through Bombay, Dehli, Dharamsala, Cochin, and a little bit of Agra. Also some small villages outside of Bombay to see caves and what not. Total trip time was 3 weeks.

Now, in February I am considering taking a honeymoon vacation with my wife to India again. This will be my second time, and her first. We have traveled to Cambodia together, so she is more or less used to travel in developing countries.

I was thinking that the backwaters of Kerala would make an excellent honeymoon location, but as I have already been there, I am looking for other options as well.

We will be flying from Japan in case that impacts anyones advice!

Any region, locations, hotels, activity advice would be great! We will have 9 days for this trip.

Thanks for everything and anything

- Harvey

9 days, it's near the bottom of the post. Should have put it on top, my bad.

By the way I have searched the the forums for "honeymoon" and found some information as well, but I am still anxious to hear from anyone who has additional advice as well!

I heard there is a palace on a lake somewhere that you can actually stay in for a few hundred dollars a night. No idea of the name yet but... As this is a honeymoon, I don't mind spluging for 2 or 3 nights, before heading out to rough it again.

Thumbs up Hi

Why not a trip to Darjeeling? Chilly weather – less number of tourists – good discount in hotels…… you can refer to this thread for a basic itinerary:

Sorry, didnt see the 9 days earler.

I would say either

-Delhi/Agra

-Kerala

-Hills.. in Feb, Somnath's advice makes sense. And/or Sikkim?

- Goa

Your hotel on a lake.. could it be Lake Palace Udaipur?

If it were me I'd head to an inclusive type resort on the most deserted island (Adamans/Nicobars/Lakshaweep) I could afford. And tell the new wife to just pack very tiny bikinis.

If she doesn't go for that, I find Rajastani cities pretty romantic and there are some great hotels (Rambaug Palace if you are really rich).

Listen to the voice of experience here, I have been married a long time, chose the honeymoon at Disneyworld, and have never heard the end of it.

That sounds interesting! Maybe we could spend 3-4 days on the deserted island, and the rest on the continent it would be nice. Since it is her first time to India, I wouldn't want to totally skip "INDIA-INDIA" (whatever that means) and give her a warped impression of the country by only staying on remote islands.

What areas must one commute from to access these islands? I'll hit google as well to see what I can find.

I need to check a map to see where these islands are,

That looks like the place! 600 USD a night good lord! It certainly would be a honeymoon night to remember though wouldn't it. Has anyone ever been there?

I'll take a look at the other suggestions as well, especially Darjeeling.

What a big country... it's going to be very tough narrowing this down.

Darjeeling looks very nice indeed! Just how chilly would it be in Feb? If it's bone chillingly cold I might have to put it off for another time. If it's just a crisp breeze though, I might like it a lot!

Hotel in the middle of a lake:
There is one in Thekkady too and not as expensive as the Udaipur one (though not too cheap also). The beauty of this place is that its bang in the middle (on a Peninsula actually) of Periyar Lake, which itself is in the middle of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. So its a great place for honeymoon. Plus, the hotel has just 6 rooms so wonderful privacy. You can go for a boat ride in the lake or for bird watching / wildlife walks in the forest. Since you've seen the backwaters already, this would be a different Kerala experience. For your wife, Thekakdy town would also give the "INDIA-INDIA" experience, with its spice markets and a regular Indian town feel. Check out http://www.ktdc.com/LakePalace.htm

From Thekkady, you can go back to Kochi and fly down to the Lakshadweep islands. These are also perfect for a honeymoon - a beautiful setting, a great beach and loads of privacy.

Have fun!!

If you want to spend all nine days than Andaman & Nicobar Islands is the place. Stay 2 - 3 days in Port Blair (visit Ross Islands, North bay, Cellular Jail, Museums in the city) & the rest days can be spent at Havelock Islands (Snorkelling, Scuba diving, relaxing). Havelock has options to suit all budgets.

However if you wish to see two places then go for Lakshadweep (3 - 4 days) & may be Kerala (Cochin & around)

Ronak.

Coming in from japan , I am sure he sees quite a bit of snow. And japan is a island country so no dearth of beaches or scuba diving or snorkelling. It's also a mountaneous country with large subtropical areas so hill stations are well there in japan too.
What japan most certainly does not have is the desert and the ambience that goes with it. Chose the udaipur palace that is the palace in the middle of lake.
Here's the link:

Also 9 days is a bit of a problem. The other thing thats famous around there is palace on wheels which is a luxury train which was meant for the royal families. It's expensive , tickets get sold out quick and the minimum tour duration is 8/9 days.
This, I believe would be a great way to end the honey moon. The catch is of course that it takes time.
here's the link

If you cannot do it you can travel around and see all the old forts, palaces, wildlife areas like ranthambore sanctuary and even spend a night in the desert(yes there are caravan tours that offer these ask around there)

All in all something that you will never get in japan !
