Extra night: Udaipur or Mumbai

We have one extra night -- what does your gut tell you -- Udaipur or Mumbai? We have never been to India.

Udaipur.

It's cheaper; more relaxed and it's got a quaint charm.

Cheers

Loved Udaipur. Not been to Mumbai, yet.

Loved both - I'd find it hard to choose, Udaipur is charming and relaxed (once you're out of the main tourist hub) with great food and so on... Mumbai is one of the great cities of the world - so much to do and see, incredible restaurants and a real vibe...... depends if you're a city or a town person - do you want a chilled afternoon on a rooftop with a book and a fresh lime soda looking over the lake, or do you want to see the bright lights or hang out at Chowpatty...How long do you have in each already?

My vote is Udaipur, but I guess it depends how long you plan to stay in each (disregarding the extra night for now). e.g. if you are staying a week in udaipur and a day in mumbai, then the extra day should be in Mumbai.
But if you have adequate time in each, then Udaipur is definitely the way to go.

I think the people who like Bombay the most are people who arrive with some attachments or fantasies about it already in place -- like if you love Hindi movies, or Marine Drive has a romance for you, or you want to eat seafood, or you want to see the Arabian sea, or you have a list of Indian designers whose boutiques you want to visit.

Whereas Udaipur, you can go there knowing nothing and enjoy its beauty.

I'm in both groups myself.
