Question East or west in june? Himachal Pradesh?

Hi there

I am planning to spend 6 weeks in the north around june.
i will fly into calcutta to meet my sister and from there travel into the himalayas...
the question is whether to go EAST OR WEST??

I've spend some months travelling all over the south and loved every minute of it but since this is a shorter trip and i like to move slowly I will not be taking on the entire himalayan foothills..

so maybe somebody out there with experience of himachal pradesh/uttaranchal on the one side and darjeeling/sikkim etc on the other just might be able to help me out

the kind of places i loved in the south were the ones with enough visitors to make for interesting travel buddies but not attract droves of tour-groups...i prefer atmosphere to sights.

all advice much appreciated!

Cool Himachal in June/July/August

Hi there!

Quick question - is the summer a good time to visit this state?
if so which is the best month?
if not - is it better to go when there are likely to be less tourists?

cheers

Rossa

HP and UA are great, but if u are going to be in Cal anyway, head for North Bengal and Sikkim.
In June the usual spots will be crawling with tourists - it is usually poss to find less-crowded places. If u have a choice, then go up in end-June. U will however encounter rain from time to time.

Sikkim is quite wet in June, HP seemed less so. Perhaps the monsoon is different for each. Why not try both? It's just a train ride and a bus/ jeep.
