Dropping Out

I have been a small business owner for the last few years and have become somewhat confused with what I thought was my life's direction. In essence I'm not very fulfilled with most aspects of my life and am looking for a little time out to take stock and re-evaluate.

At the age of forty (mid life crisis?)and having had a bit of travel experience behind me, I thought six months in India would allow time to reflect.I need very little in the way of luxury and would be traveling on a low budget.

My question?

What region/town would you suggest for a reasonably low key,picturesque,laid back stay,that offers access to internet,nice food and a beer,and a few other wanderers? Is there a particular place known for it's attraction to long termers?

I will be traveling in march so I would imagine I would be heading to the hills?

What are your preferences? Hills? Temples? Beaches? Backwaters? Climate? Etc.

A beach shack would be preferable,but I thought the weather from march would exclude most of the coast.

-Goa, though what you say is right, summers can be terrible.
-Kerala, weather will again be a minus
-Hills, Uttaranchal or Himachal or Darjeeling etc... this would be my preference.

Areas you will probably run into other wanderers, which is a preference... Almora outskirts, Himachal Parvati valley, Rishikesh in Uttaranchal, Darjeeling... and many more.

Caution on Parvati valley... its known for drugs.

Does it have to be rigid, else you could stay a month in each place, or longer if you like it, and move on.

I like this Idea of flexibility...stay the time you want to and then move one...however don't make a target OR timeframe in mind...

try darjeeling cheap places to stay ..good food great views a few western travellers but not too many. internet fantastic book shop nice place to chill out . a place i always promote agonda in goa , beach huts running done the beach 8 am and no one apart from a couple of dogs

No it's not rigid capt, and yes the option of moving on is always available. Didn't really see this trip as covering a great deal of territory though.

patrickday's darjeeling idea sounds good. I would prefer that over goa anyday, and also some tourist traps of Uttaranchal.. which you will otherwise want to some extent, for the wanderers and the internet.

Darjeeling has been mentioned to me before from others as well. Me thinks it deserves a closer inspection on my part.
