Doubts with Jodhpur - Udaipur and Jaipur - Agra

Hi,
I have almost done my itinerary I have doubts with 2 routes.

Jodhpur - Ranakpur - Udaipur:

I would like to hire a car with driver to cover this route, where can I hire it? How much should it cost? What time should I expect to arrive at Udaipur? I'll be leaving Udaipur next morning...is enough to see Udaipur just 1 afternoon?

Jaipur - Fatehpur Sikri - Agra

I would also like to hire a car with driver to cover this route, where can I hire it? How much should it cost? What time should I expect to arrive at Agra? I'll be leaving Agra at 21h (same day) is enough to see the Taj Mahal?

Thanks

No way, and no way.

What is the rest of your itinerary?

You may find you get more from your trip if you go to less places and/or travel by overnight train.

I'm not sure why Steve is so against the first trip - I think its a good idea. You can't go from Jodhpur - Ranakpur - Udaipur on the train, and even on a bus would be difficult: if you hire a car you can also visit the fort at Kumbalgarh

Seeing Udaipur in just a morning would be too rushed - most people spend a few days there. 1 whole day would be a minimum.

Have to agree with steven_ber. This is no way to see anything, anyplace in India unless it's a small village with nothing at all to see but a nice bodhi tree! Don't waste your time in either place if you have no time to see it.

Must say this schedule reminds me of the deserved reputation Americans used to have when traveling to Europe in the 1960s/70s: "It's Tuesday so this must be Belgium" They never knew where they were or what they saw because they just sped through a list of places but could tell everyone at home they "did Europe."

Please don't try that in India--it's really a waste of your time.

Yes, this is just my personal opinion, feel free to ignore it and race around as fast as you can!!

Thanks for your feedback.

I decided to add 1 full day in Udaipur, but I cannot add another in Agra (Taj).

Departing Jaipur at 7:30h in the morning, and visiting Fatehpur Sikri en route and also having lunch, I think we could get to the Taj Mahal about 4 PM. It closes at 7PM so we have 3 hours there.....I think it's ok for me....but I'm opened to your feedback. Is 3 hours enough at Taj? It's reallistic to arrive at 4PM from Jaipur (with a driver).

Thanks

If your schedule works as you planned (which is rare in getting around in India ), then 3 hours is OK for the Taj. Many people do a day trip from Delhi to see it, so that's OK. You won't get the full effect of seeing it different times of the day and evening when it appears to change colors, but that doesn't matter. It's still an architectural gem. Stopping in Fatipur Sikri is a good idea. I personally love it and think it's one of the best things to see in India.
