With that budget (and without insisting on 'broadband', such as it is), should be easily possible.
Not touristy and near the coast? Look at the east coast, or Diu/Gujarat on the West coast... or even smaller places in Goa/Karnataka? |

I've no idea about accommodation, but I was thinking of Murudeshwar.
It's in Karnataka, has a few Indian tourists, but very few foreign tourists, is really cheap, laid back and friendly. There is a very succesful local man who's been ploughing money into the town, building a local school, hospital and generally improving the town for the locals, and attempting to put the place on the tourist map, he's built a couple of good quality hotels, one of them seems to be aimed at the buisness man and has conferencing fascilities (so probibly good Internet connections are available in the town). However, I only spent a few days there, so you will need to search for more info.

thanks everyone. it's good to know that my goals aren't outlandish. i guess i'll just show up, rent a bike, and see what a few days of hunting turns up.
would love to hear any other location ideas. and to clarify... i guess i don't really mind touristy per se. it's the obnoxious touristy that i'd like to avoid, be it obnoxious ravers, obnoxious european package tourists, or obnoxious indians. What about Diu? I've never been, but it sounded kind of cool.

Twenty thousand just for rent? Man, are inexpensive places in Goa that expensive?
How much are the expensive ones then?Of course it is relative to a person's income and living standard. But wouldn't the same profile be available for a lot less, say half the amount? |
