distress re: kashmir

i am stuck in my mind...i am planning to fulfill a lifelong dream to travel to india. had planned to arrive in bombay (oct9-10). from there i wanted to travel to kashmir so i bought a one-way airline ticket to srinagar. i intended to travel south via shimla and head for delhi, then through gujarat, back to mumbai. shortly after i purchased the ticket, srinagar started to get very volatile. now i understand that it is not advisable to even go there. but, i am hearing from the owner of chicago houseboats (who i found through this site) that it's ok and will be better by oct. i don't know whether to ditch my plan to go there, make a plan "b", or just go and trust the hosts? if i go to srinagar i don't know if i can even move about or for how long to plan a stay. what is the best advice you can share? it's my first trip to the area. thanks

The title of the recently renamed thread seems to say it pretty staight forward:

Dangerous Situation in Jammu& Kashmir/Srinagar. Stay Away.

It's a shame, for those who live there as well as those who wish to visit...

I'm sure manyof those who are selling holidays will be quite sure that everything will be ok by exact and specific dates.

I sympathise with them, just as with the disapointed travellers, but crystal balls just don't work out in this situation.

Please click on the link in the previous post by Robotvoice to be aware of the situation as it changes. Will close this thread. it doesn't help anyone trying to make plans ahead, but this sort of thing really has to be taken day by day --- plus a few to make sure.
