dharmasala to valley of the flowers?
I plan to leave McLeod Ganj on the 12th of August, and want to head from there to Joshimath, for the Valley of the Flowers trek. I have to get back to Delhi by the 19th or 20th.
The only route I've figured out is the overnight 12 hour bus back to Delhi from McLeod Ganj, then the 4 hour train to Haridwar, and the 12 hour bus to Joshimath. But this seems like a lot of unnecessary backtracking, and I'm not too excited about all of that bus travel right before I want to start trekking. Are there any other routes that people might suggest? Is there a way of getting from Dharmasala to Haridwar by train? If so, that last 12 hour bus trip to Dharamsala might not be so bad. I'm travelling solo, so I don't think that a long-distance taxi will be in my price range, but does anyone have a sense of how much it might cost from McLeod Ganj to Joshimath? From Haridwar to Joshimath? Thank you so much!! ![]() |

Hello shmekel and welcome to indiamike.com
Bus, taxi or train to Pathankot then.... Train 4610 departs Chakki Bank (Pathankot) daily at 20:30 and gets to Rishikesh at 07:45 2-tier air con = Rs 763 3-tier air con = Rs 548 Sleeper Class = Rs 206 (not air con)

I guess you might like to check the the trains from any station in Punjab to Haridwar.. Check from Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ambala, Ludhiana, Pathankot etc... from Mcleodganj you can get down the hills by bus and then take a train from one of these town to Haridwar.. |

no, nothing in una himachal i want to see, but on a map it appears to be quite close to dharmasala (and mcleod ganj) and I can take the train from una himachal to rishikesh with only one connection.
anyone have a sense of how close it is to dharmasala (or mcleod ganj, more specifically)? it would be great if it worked out. |

It looks to be about 100 kms by the most direct route, I've a feeling you'd need to get a couple of buses (or a taxi).
Train 4554, Una Himachal 20:50 Ambala Cant 01:30 Train 4610, Ambala Cant 02:40 Rishikesh 07:45 But you wouldn't get a good sleep, and you'd have to leave Mcloud Ganj at about the same time as you would to get the train from Pathankot, another thing in favour of Pathankot, many tourists use Pathankot to get to/from Dharamsala, so there's a good chance of sharing a taxi. |
