You can also follow this route by trains,
Delhi - agra - allhabad - varanasi - bhandavgarh - khajurao - orcha - pune. You have plenty of options and it all depends upon your interest. |

I think Alizafar's order is a good one. I suggest train. It is a cheap and comfortable way to move about the country plus it gives you a taste of India that is unique and fun.
Check out the different threads here: http://www.indiamike.com/india/indian-railways-f10/ The sticky threads are filled with great info. |

thanks April flower !!!
even the plan suggested by n kumar too seems perfect but than he will be missing jaipur as well as udaipur[ a great interest of places as he already been mentioned about those.] mate you can go like this . Delhi Agra orcha khajuraho than catch a train either from satna or jhansi as there is no train moving out from khajuraho straight to varanasi than on to jaipur[ marudur express coming straight to jaipur . couple of days quite enough to get the city explored .than catch a train or bus to udaipur .. 1 full day sight seen of udaipur than go for flight to mumbai will be some what cheaper than taking it from elsewhere.. kingfisher[12.15pm] and jet airways running on that route [19.25pm] get the flight booked prior to your journey as session is going on and the prices supposed to be hike as the date of take off comes closer.. need more .. ali Last edited by alizafar : Nov 28th, 2008 at 13:12. You don't give enough info, so it's difficult to get good replies.
Going from Delhi to Agra really isn't the way to go though, you'd only have to come back through Agra later on a 17/18 hour journey and that isn't necessary. Either. Delhi-Khajuraho - Varanasi - Agra - Jaipur - Mumbai/Pune (if the Delhi-Khajuraho train has started when you go. Or Delhi-Varanasi - Khajuraho - Orchha - Agra - Jaipur - Mumbai/Pune Orchha really is worth visiting for a couple of days. |

thank you all for your tips, very useful.
Thanks so much! In particular I did not know orchha, wich seems to be beautiful... and quite close to khajuraho... tho sights maybe more easily reachable by buses rather than trains. I'll look for time schedules to find out how much it takes to go varanasi-khajuraho-orchha->satna/jahnsi (and than agra, jaipur, udaipur) It's difficult to see everything in so few days, I just have from 18 dec to 3/4 jan to get to pune. Maybe I just could skip new delhi, staying there just to see the national museum and maybe the tiger reserve, and go straight to varanasi/khajuraho. Where do you think i should stay more, varanasi, udaipur or jaipur? I also guess i'll have to decide soon, in italy, before i get my trip started, in order to reserve, as I've read that long-distance train need to be reserved long before... I'm also worried about Udaipur-Mumbai-Pune, as it seems to be a loooong trip and I can't find direct connection Udaipur-mumbai.. |

catch a flghi from udaipur to mumbai from there on you can catch huge no of good buses running over to pune . trains too.. good luck ali |

thank ali!!
i will try to stay more in small cities rather than spending time in delhi. but.... http://book.goindigo.in/skylights/cg...skylights.cgi# I can't find convenient udaipur-mumbai connection but i found with indiGo airlines this connection from ahmedabad... is it possible that it costs just 200 rs??? it means 3.10 euros according to online converter... it it for real? is the plane safe or maybe this company is that cheap because they fly with very old planes? |

Most in country flights between major cities run around +/- $100. The ticket itself is really cheap, almost the price of a train ticket...the taxes are murder though!

cold i miss varanasi?
Hi everyone again, i'm trying to work out our trip in india. We were wondering if varanasi REALLY HAS TO BE SEEN, we were considering that we'd love to see udaipur, jaipur, agra, khajuraho, orchha and maybe ranthambore park and we thaught that if we drop varanasi we'd have more time not to be too much in rush.
what do you think? as it sense to come to india and not see varanasi? thank you so much! |

Nah, nothing HAS to be seen. Check out this thread to get some opinions. what is varanasi for you
If it makes the rest of your schedule work I would say drop it. I think it is kind of a hate it or love it type of place. My family members all told me not to go because it is so dirty and I had Indian friends who told me not to bother if it didn't work in the itenerary. That said, I haven't been. Are you really into religious sites? If you wouldn't miss Mecca then don't miss Varanasi. Otherwise drop it. |
