Delhi to mountains
I am sorry to ask a dumb question but how far is from Delhi to the nearest mountains? We are going to be in Delhi in April and thought if it was hot the mountains would be a relief.
Thanks |

In April Delhi will be hot but not unbearable. About 300Km away you will be in the lower hills. You can head for Himachal, Garhwal or Kumaon. All are linked very well with Delhi by rail or road.
If you have chosen a particular region more details can be provided. |

I think HIMACHAL is best location as roads are good and mountain is not that much crowded as compaed to NAINITAL or HARIDWAR.

even Kathgodam (nainital district) is pretty close.
u can take the night train from old delhi railway station (ranikhet express at around 10:30 pm) and reach kathgodam early morning @ 5 am. from htere u can go to any place u want ... nainital, ranikhet, almora/binasar, munsiyari (this would take 2 days if u want a leisure trip). i would recommend munsiyari. beautiful place.

Obviously u were taking the scenic route, or u just added the distance the night train travels to Dehradun (320 km via Najibabad) and added 40 km for the uphill stretch. The shortest road journey is 280-285 km.

In addition to the excellent advice given by many,
Rishikesh is 270 km or thereabouts, and then you can go up the hills ... a weeks trip minimum would be good. But I would take almoraboy's tour. |
