Question Delhi to Calcutta, 10 days, 2 options, Need Help!!

Friends,

I have two itinary options for 11 days at the begning of July

1. Delhi - Udaipur - Agra - Varanasi - Calcutta

or

2. Delhi - Rishikesh - Varanasi - Bodgaya - Calcutta

What to do, What do to?

Are these both feasible options? Is there something I should add or subtract?

Not too fussed about Agra really. Is there anything else cool between Udaipur and Varanasi that could break up the journey?

You could add Lucknow; it's a very pleasant town and you'll see few foreigners there. There is high-pressure sales opportunities in shops, but not so bad in the bazaar. Oh, and the food in Lucknow is very good.

Option 1

I agree with Saibal Das - option 1 sounds better!

Are you interested mostly in history, nature, religion??? Knowing this would help as well.

Check the date of the thread, KatieJo. It is 2 years old.

Actually, come to think of it, for someone interested in the same itinerary, the second option has the advantage of a direct train from Haridwar to Varanasi, via Lucknow, and then on to Kolkata: The Doon Express, a very good train.

Well, atala, Doon may not be a good option as it stops at so many stations. Now another train has been introduced - Upasana / Kumbh express which take less time, but ply on the same route.

From Mughal Sarai to Kolkata, there are innumarable options. There is Vibhuti express also from Varanasi to Kolkata.

Hmm, I have actually never taken the Doon from Haridwar to Kolkata, but several times the other way. I consider it a good train for convenient departure and arrival times, for instance starting at Howrah in the evening and arriving at Gaya (for Bodhgaya), early morning at 5 a.m. and then in Varanasi a few hours later. For a tourist morning arrivals are very convenient in terms of getting a good room, and in terms of safety. For me it is the best train Howrah-Gaya. There are faster trains, but with inconvenient departure arrival times.

For instance, there is no other convenient train from Gaya to Varanasi than the Doon. That is why I consider it a good train. This may not be the case for OP here, though, admitted.
