Delhi to Bangalore Via the west coast (30 days)

Hi IM,

I'll be arriving in Delhi on the 20th of January for a 12 month jaunt around India, this is my first time to India but I have traveled for long periods before. I would like a little guidance on my first month. Ideally I would like this to last 30 days and my budget is for about 800rps a day. I'm happy to go sleeper class on trains or 2AC if its within budget.

Well here's my sketch of an itinerary:

Delhi
Agra
Mumbai
Pune
Goa
Kerala
Bangalore

I am starting in Delhi because that is where I land, Agra for the Taj, Pune for the university as I may be enrolling. The other places seem like good places to visit as I probably will only be on the west coast once. I am finishing this journey in Bangalore where I will be studying Sanskrit for a month.

Is there anywhere else on the way that people recommend?
Is it possible within the time frame I have set?
Any recommendations to the amount of time I should spend in each place?

Many Thanks.

CP.

A few options you could look into

1. rajasthan(a dozen or more destinations in that state - including jaipur, jodhpur, udaipur, jaisalmer etc)

2. ajanta-ellora

3. mandu

Your question is fairly open ended, but I'll try to give you some options!

Delhi, Agra, Rajasthan (Jaipur, Udaipur) are great options.

I would also recommend going to Uttaranchal from Delhi - very convenient to get to from Delhi there are overnight trains that are cheap. Accomodation and food is very cheap in Uttaranchal especially if you go off peak months. Check out http://www.gmvnl.com for more information. There are a few of their cabins in quaint, quiet towns that are awesome. There are lots of rafting places depending on the season you visit and I've heard it is amazing.

Also Himachal Pradesh is another option from Delhi although not as easy to get to. There are daily buses that take you to Chandigarh from Delhi and then on to Kullu or Manali. Dharamshala is a must see. There are numerous ancient temples in Himachal.

From Pune, you can take a train to Mumbai and do the usual sight seeing stuff there. Also go to Ajanta/Ellora. Ganpatiphule is a wonderful beach, quiet town not your usual touristy place. There are buses from Pune.

Hope this helps!
