Question Delhi to Agra: midnight travel possible?

Hi,

We will reach Delhi at 10:45 pm on Friday, 30 May. The next day 31 May is set for Agra as per our schedule.

So, can we travel from Delhi to Agra in the midnight so that we will have an entire day with us at Agra? We do not have any vehicle- if we hire a vehicle in the midnight only for drop at Agra, do they charge too much asking us to pay for the return as well? (we will not return to Delhi)

Or, do you think it is better to check in at some hotel in Delhi for the night and start early in the morning for Agra?

Also, please mention how much do they charge for a vehicle (6 adults) midnight/daytime. Are there any tourist buses available without need to advance booking?

Thanks in advance.

Night driving to Agra is ok, just get the guy to drive a little slowly.

Afraid you will have to pay for the return trip, unless you know some car agency in Agra which has a vehicle to return there.

6 adults means a squashed Innova. (driver makes 7). If you can fit in, around 9/10 rupees a kilometer.

I would keep him in Agra for the next day and then let him return; will not cost that much more*, and will be more convenient.

Buses I don't know about. Trains neither.

*normal arrangement is that you pay a minimum of 200km a day. Given that Delhi Agra Delhi will be around 400/450 (depends where the car starts and ends in Delhi), and lets say you do another 50/70km in Agra, you may end up paying around 5000 for the trip to Agra and roaming around there.

Delhi - Agra can be done in under 3 hours..its only about 190 Km's, and that early in the morning traffic will be low enough for a seasoned driver to really zip...

...which means you could be in Agra at 3 AM (assuming u leave at 11) ...yes u can ask him to drive slowly..but how slowly eventually?

I think ur better of checking into a hotel maybe and then leaving at about 5-6 and getting there between 8-9 AM, keeping the driver and coming back with him in the evening...but a bus/train might make leaving immediately feasible..but i dont have enough info on that..

I meant slow for safety, but puchoo has a point about reaching Agra at 3am.

I would also suggest checking in a hotel in Delhi and leave at 5 AM..at that hour it would hardly take 3 hours to reach there..spend the day there, keep the car, go to Fateh Pur sikri and return in the same car..

PS : Just read that you do not want to return to Delhi, but you have to pay for the return trip as well. You might book a morning Shatabadi or other trains from Delhi...

Search the forum for more info, loads of information available on trains..

Ah sorry....i did not even consider the safety=slowing bit , thats road's really nice!!

Maybe they could check into a hotel there and get some rest before starting out...this way they can be out as early as 7...plus with being able to sleep on the drive as well , being rested enough should not be a problem...but i dont know what that means for the driver though then...

The Indian Railway website is 'day of week' sensitive, only listing trains that run on that particular day of the week.

You enqured using a date that was a friday (today), look down the list and you won't see any trains that don't run on fridays.

If you change the date (and/or day of week) you will see a different list, though most will be the same as most trains are daily.

still slightly confused..why do they have MTWTFSS is front of each train...? is not that supposed to indicate days which the trains run on...

And what does this mean for OP anyway...that there is an option or there is not...? guess not ,right, for that time?

Yes, and it does indicate what days a train runs, but only if it also runs on the day you used for your enquiry.

For example, we know the Bhopal Shatabdi runs 7 days a week, but it has a slightly different number (and arrival time) on Fridays, so when you enquire for a friday, you only get Friday's shatabdi and not the Shatabdi that runs on the other 6 days (because the trains have different numbers).

If you enquire for a saturday, you'll get the other Shatabdi and the website will tell you that it only runs 6 days a week, you won't be able to find friday's shatabdi.

The website used to list all trains no matter when they ran, I don't know why they changed the way they list trains.

www.erail.in lists all trains.

Personally, I would go to a hotel in Paharganj and get the Shatabdi on Saturday morning, (Train 2002, New Delhi 06:15, Agra Cant 08:12)
