Delhi-Raipur-Rishikesh-Delhi
Aloha.
Sorry to ask an scheduling question, but... In May, I need to get from Delhi to Raipur, then to Rishikesh. Does any airline serve both Raipur and Derha Dun via Delhi? If not, does a plane to & from Raipur and then the train via Haridwar make sense? Indian Airlines has those coupons that cost like US $400 for 4, or I can fly roundtrip Delhi-Raipur for $492. Then what to do with the other 2 coupons!? Are they transferable? Thanks for any help you can give. ![]() |

There is a flight between Delhi & Raipur by Indian. Check the departure times,
I think it departs at 5:50 AM on tue,thu & sat. At 10:30 AM on mon, wed, fri & sun. There is no coonection with Dehradun from Raipur. So you need to fly back to Delhi & take either the overnight train or the superfast Shatabdi Exp. from Delhi. Coupons are not transferable. BTW what takes you to Raipur? |

Thanks Jyotirmoy,
That's what I thought was the best plan too. I like that Shatabdi Exp. from Delhi, so I guess I'll do it that way. I am going to Raipur to go to a village in Chattisgarh, I'll teach to the young women there. I'll arrive just when thier summer break begins. Then, after a few weeks, when the heat gets too much for me, I'll go to Rishikesh and chill out. |

Why Rishikesh only? Dont you want to explore the sacred heights of Uttaranchal?

Like where? Gangotri? Or the the stunning beauty of Tapovan?
I went there last May, and I admit, if it's super-hot, I might do that again. Where else? I am totally open to suggestions. I guess I just like Rishikesh so much I always seem to want to go there. |

Almora, Kausani, Ranikhet, Chakauri, Binsar, Jageshwar, Bhimtal, Bahgeshwar,
The Garwhal offers even more options but I'm not so familiar with the area so I'll let others advise!! |

Delhi - Rishikesh - Karnaprayag - Gwaldam - Kausani - Binsar - Chakori - Sitlakhet - Delhi.
Avoid the pilgrim trail to Badrinath or Kedarnath in May. |

Yes CH the journey is through beautiful places. If you watch carefully you will see a subtle change in the vegitation, rock faces etc. when you leave Garhwal & move in to the Kumaon region. You experience that when you move from Karnaprayag towards Gwaldom. In my opinion Gwaldom is much better a place than Kausani. Its quieter & less touristy than Kausani. The tourist bungalow is situated in a very nice location. For trekkers the trek to Bedni Bugiyal is very rewarding.

I guess I need to do a bit of reading up on destinations.
I live in Hawaii, so too far up into the hills is tough on me, as I don't handle cold well. That said, I got caught in a snow storm in Tapovan last year and totally loved it. I always feel drawn to Rishikesh, but maybe this trip I will branch out. Thanks, you guys. |

Obviously the weather varies but I enjoyed three weeks of unbroken sunshine in Almora last April, hot enough for shorts and sunbathing even the evenings were'nt too cold. I only used the wood stove once in three weeks!!
