Delhi-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Delhi

Hi Once again!

We just wanted to take a holydip in the River Ganges at Haridwar while in Delhi. We just have one day for this.

We intend to start early in the morning around 5-6am and getback around 8-9pm on the same day.

I checked up for a non A/C tata indica and Rs 2700/- is the best deal for Delhi-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Delhi one day trip.

From Kasmere Gate ISBT is it convenient to take Govt. bus to Haridwar?
How many hours is the travel by bus to Haridwar from Delhi?
How frequent the buses are available for Haridwar from Delhi?

Thanks in advance.

even though there are numerous buses which run between Delhi and Haridwar..however doing the trip in one day might be too hectic for you as the road is not very good..

I guess it would take 6-7 hours to reach haridwar on a bus...

and Rs.2700 is a excellent rate..just make sure that there are no riders..like driver charges extra or something..

You would have to pay the toll taxes and parking..and rest all should be on the agency/driver/car owner..

Even is he says that you have to pay Rs.100 extra for the driver..i would advice you to go for it..

You could also take the Dehradun Shatabdi train to/from Haridwar. It leaves New Delhi station at 7 AM, arrives into Haridwar around 11:30 AM. For the return leg the train leaves Haridwar around 6 PM and gets back into New Delhi around 10:30 PM. The round trip will cost around 1000 RS per person. Personally I think it is a lot more pleasant than driving that road.

Another option would be train from Delhi to Haridwar then taxi/auto rickshaw to Rishikesh. Rishikesh is only about an hour from Haridwar by road. But it would certainly be a busy day to do the round trip to both and actually see something of either of them.

I have been to Haridwar several times, you know there are n number of reasons that being an Hindu you have to go to Haridiwar ... but I have only been able to witness Ganga Arti once, that that too was in Rishikesh (if I remember correctly)..but that was an experience in itself.. you simply seem to lose yourself to the surroundings... evrything seems so spiritual...

Shashank / Barka

Thanks for your great recommendation to experience the ganga aarthi at haridwar in the evening. I was successful to extend my stay for 6 hours by travelling in Mussoorie express at 23:00hrs from haridwar to Delhi instead of earlier haridwar departure at 15:30hrs.

Thanks again. As it is a Hindu holy religious experience we will enjoy this event and fulfils my parents spiritual fulfilment to some extent. Thanks for availing this great opportunity.

good to know that you were able to do that..I hope you would have the same experience as I had..!!

and other thing I wanted to say..if you really wanna 'enjoy' your bath in Ganges as it is summers... then spend time in Rishikesh, there beyond Ram Jhula, the river bank has sand and lot of boulders..

so its good to lie down there for few hours in the river..also due to boulders you get support and pressure is conrolled..otherwise the river flows with great force..

where as in Hardwar you will end up on Har ki Paudi and would take 2-3 dips and done with it..
