Delhi, Amristar, Agra, Udaipur, Mumbai- August 2012

Hoping for some general advice on what to do while on my trip after I volunteer for a month in Madurai. We realize that our itinerary is some what strage as we travel everyday, yes I know that it is good to stay in one place but we just want to see these places, in case we never make it back to India.
Our Itinerary:
Saturday: Fly to Delhi
Sunday: Delhi/Train Overnight to Amritrsar
Monday: Amritsar/Train Overnight to Delhi
Tuesday: Delhi
Wednesday: Agra/Train Overnight to Udaipur
Thursday: Udaipur/Flight to Mumbai
Friday: Mumbai
Saturday: Home
Any suggestions on what to see within a day, what to eat, where to sleep when not on trains etc.
Is it a bad idea to do so many overnight trains??
Cheers!

You can increase a day in Udaipur by taking a train from Amritsar to Agra.

If you do spend a night in Udaipur, check out Mewar Haveli.

In Delhi you can check out Cottage Yes Please
Kedar Janani Devasthan, Mt Abu - Udaipur, Bharatpur, Agra, Gwalior, Orchha, Jhansi

Welcome, Canadian!!

if your friend is fussy about toilets, the overnight (or any) train toilet is going to be a challenge, even the Western style ones are disgusting, usually the floor is flooded by people who easily miss the toilet while the train is moving.

I can recco some places in New Del (including ones with great bathrooms (-: but what is your budget/night ?

I love Amritsar. Good choice!!

Snce you asked, IMHO three overnight trains is two too many.

I recently took the overnight Punjab train from ( Ludhiana to jaipur) which is the one you'll have from Amritsar to Del. I was in one of the first class compartments ( 4 beds--configured as two bunk beds) and we 4 humans were joined by a mouse. Inevitable, due to everyone eating on the train. Not so bad...the Ludhiana RR Station had rats running around the stationmaster's office and no one even looked twice. Just be prepared.
