Delhi airport- Mussoorie by rental car?

Hello,
I am in Mussoorie right now and my husband will be joining me in one week's time. He is arriving in the mid afternoon at the international airport and is coming right up to join me in the mountains. The original plan was for him to get a taxi from the airport to the train station, then take the Mussoorie express to Dehradun, then a taxi up to Mussoorie.
I've decided it would be much easier to drive straight from the airport up to Mussoorie-- thus avoiding the unnecessary detour into Delhi, and also saving time (he only has two weeks in India).
I have been trying to find a reliable company to order a driver from, but most seem to specialize in longer trips. How much should I expect to pay for a 6-hour drive in an air-conditioned (but otherwise basic) vehicle, with no stops along the way?
I have been quoted 6,000 and 7,000 rupees, respectively, from two different companies. This seemed very steep to me!
I would appreciate any information anyone could give me.
Thanks!

You can hire an Air conditioned Indica, Mussorie would be around 300 Km from Delhi (Not sure about the exact figure, but that should help for rough estimate). All the Cabs would charge for both ways..i.e. up and down. That means that you will be paying for around 600 KM and even if we take Rs.6 per Km rate..it would cost you around Rs.3600.

Now the thing to understand is that it would cost the same if you hire a car from Delhi OR Mussorie..as in both cases you have to pay for both ways...so instead of finding a agent anyplace else, hire a car from Mussorie, ask the driver to go to Delhi, Pick your husband and get him to Delhi..

PS : Just an afterthought..: And if you are enterprising and would like to save money, you can find someone in Mussorie who has to come back to Delhi and actually let them use the car that would anyways go empty to Delhi, I am sure they won't mind paying you Rs.1500 to 2000..and i am sure anymoney that comes your way and helps subsidize the trip won't hurt..
