| I am hoping to travel around a lot of Asia next year and will be in India at the beginning of June 2007. We will fly into Delhi and from there we want to visit Agra and Varanasi but we are on a budget so probably wont be able to fly but also we have a time limit, and obviously Varanasi is quite far from Delhi. Can you suggest the best route to do and if anyone knows any prices would be greatly appreciated. also we are thinking if there is time, of visiting Jaipur. Many thanks, Em x N.B. if we get the train to Varanasi from Delhi, then is there a train to Agra, then Jaipur, then back to Delhi. Does anyone know how long this would take as obviously we dont want to spend the whole week we are in India traveling. Many thanks x Last edited by machadinha; Dec 20th, 2007 at 01:11.. | Hi and welcome to IndiaMike. In the "links" link in my signature you'll find some rails sites to help you do your travel planning. Alternatively, look around this site; the Railways forum would be a good place to start. Note the "sticky" threads there (threads "stuck" on top of the forum). Good luck with it, others will likely be around with the specifics.

You can find the timetables and prices at www.indianrail.gov.in, and book tickets at www.irctc.co.in. But if you're only in India for a week you're going to have to drop either Varanasi or Jaipur, or spend your entire week travelling. | |

| Thanks for the link. i have found that there is an overnight train from Delhi to Varanasi, but strangely the site doesn't mention anything about the same train the other way... Does anyone know if there is definately an overnight train from Vananasi back to Delhi or Agra? I presume there must be |

| Very hot in early June That part of India can have daytime highs between 40-45 degrees Celsius at that time of year. Perhaps the worst time to visit those places weather-wise. |

| Oh, come on, Emily. I just took a very quick look at the Indian Railways site and found half a dozen overnight trains between Varanasi and Delhi, four of which run every day... |

| Look at the following website. http://erail.in/# It will automatically give trains to alternate stations in the metro area. Thus for Varanasi Junction, it will also list trains through Varanasi City and Mughalsarai. For Varanasi to Delhi, your best bet is the train 2457A which leaves Varanasi Junction at 8 pm and gets to Delhi at 9 am. There are faster trains but they leave Varanasi in the middle of the night and go from Mughalsarai. There are also good alternatives from new Delhi to Varanasi. |

| Hi Emily, I had a similar itinerary in mind - take a look here... Delhi/Agra/Jaipur/Varanasi in 10 days...??! |
