Dehradun to Chandigarh

I was wondering if someone could tell me about the best transport from Dehradun to Chandigarh (and how long it will take, where to book, etc.). I'm trying to find something that would allow me to arrive as early as possible on a Monday morning in Chandigarh. (or possibly late at night Sunday).
I'm willing to take pretty much any form of transportation within reason.
Thanks!

I am not sure if a direct train connection is possible. Both being important cities there must be buses.
You can take a bus to Delhi and take the Shatabdi Exp. train from New Delhi at 5:15 PM & reach Chandigarh around 8:20 PM

There are a lot of buses from DDn to CHD. Delhi is not enroute, so out of question. Buses are the best and will take around 4-5 Hrs.

There are plenty of buses. The trip time is 4 to 5 hours. It's best to avoid night travel, so I suggest u take one leaving no later than 4 pm. Avoid the ordinary buses if poss, they are a bit bumpy. Take a semi-deluxe or deluxe. In general there's no need to book.
If poss, try to take one which goes via Yamunangar and Panchkula, it's a bit shorter and more traffic-free than via Ambala.
The buses leave from the new Insterstate Bus Terminal (ISBT for short). U might be able to enquire from the old bus-station in the town-centre, next to Hotel Drona, about bus schedules. Otherwise, call the ISBT.

All buses will have to pass through Yamunanagar and for Chandigarh almost all will pass through Ambala also. There is also one way via Yamunanagar-Narain garh-panchkula-Chd. but no direct bus (I think)

That's the route I meant, actually. Yamunanagar is way off-route and wud not normally figure in the direct DD-Chd route, which wud be via Paonta-Nahan-Naraingarh-Panchkula.
However I see that some HR buses do go the long way via both Yamunanagar and Ambala.

nicoleah,
Haryana Roadways lists 3 ordinary buses from Dehradun to Chandigarh on its website:
http://hartrans.gov.in/roadways/time_tablesrch.asp
There may be more. One of the above is on the short route.

U shud also check for the schedules of Uttarakhand Transport Corp. and Chandigarh Transport when in Dehradun.
