also trains vs. car in terms of expense?
Thr top class (1A) is very comfortable - 3 bunks to a compartment. So is 2A - 2 per side of a compartment.
And either class will be a lot cheaper than hiring a car/taxi. Plus the railways provide bedding, among other things.
Kids under 5 travel free but without a seat/berth of course. One berth is a bit narrow IMO for an adult and child; others may have a different opinion.
Otheriwse there's an early-morn chair-car train (6.50 am) from Del to Dehradun (arr 12.40 pm) which might be more convenient.
In either case u can get a taxi right from the station to Muss. These are share-taxis (per seat payment) but u can book the whole cab for around Rs. 450 which will be very convenient, espesh with luggage.

What does anyone know about flying Deccan from Dehli to Shimla. There is a morning flight and I am wondering how reliable this is?

As reliable as the weather - the instrumentation at Jubarhatti airfield is basic, and at the first sign of bad weather flights are cancelled.

Change of plans. We going to putt of going to the mountains until the Spring. Instead, while the weather is not too hot, we're going to do Delhi, Agra, and Udaipur.

Is the lake in Udaipur dried up this time of year?

We only have 8 days, so I think these three stops are enough, but wonder if we're missing anything along the way between Agra and Udaipur, should we decide to fly there instead of driving.

Advice is soooo appreciated!
