Dehli, Agra, Hampi, Mysore in a week?
Hi, Its been a long time since I have been in India and never before with a very limited amount of time. I'd like some advice on the practicality of train travel from Delhi to Mysore with the following itinerary:
to Delhi
Delhi
Agra
Hampi
to Bangalore
to Mysore
On this above section, my wife and son will be traveling independently. They have not been to India before. I will join them in Mysore. My questions therefore are:
1) is this a practical itinerary by train?
2) from Agra to Hospet (Hampi) is there a direct train or do they need to change trains? If they need to change is this once or more often? And is the station they will change at safe (particularly if they have to wait some time for the new train)? Do you know what the numbers are of the trains that are the best to use?
3) from Hampi to Mysore I assume that they have to change at Bangalore and possibly at another station. Do they need to change once or twice? Do you know what the numbers are of the trains that are the best to use?
Many thanks for the help

A week? That would be about the amount of time spent on the train alright. Check out my train search engine, all the cities you mentioned are listed.
You're looking at about 36 hours between Agra & Hampi. 14 hours from Hampi to Mysore. Oof, and then you have to catch the train back....
Even flying this schedule wouldn't be very fun. If you're only going one way I'd do anything possible to spare my wife and son the 36 hour marathon train ride. Flights from Delhi > Banglore are reasonable.

Forget it, set three weeks apart or rethink the shedule...

Delhi - do u plan to tour around Delhi ? in case yes , then the whole plan falls apart..
Agra needs 2 days minimum if you want to cover - Fatehpur Sikri -Agra Fort and Taj mahal
Then you take a flight to Banglore from Agra ( try one of the low cost airlines) train journey to Bangalore takes too long as mentioned earliar!
Bangalore can be seen in a day .
Overnight train from Bangalore to Hampi - there are quite a few trains to hospet from blore (10 hrs )you need to spend minimum 2 days in Hampi
Way back you can catch a bus to mysore from Hampi
Mysore 1 night - The palace and chamundi hills can be covered
Overnight train - Blr - hampi
Overnight bus - Hampi -mysore
Pheww !! that would be hectik !! but u can give it a shot if u can do a lot of overnites on train/bus

heba.azooz,
Welcome to India.
Delhi to Agra you can go by New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express. Hire a car for site seeing there. Return by Bhopal - New Delhi Shatabdi same evening. Or if you want to stay at Agra then next evening. You may book tickets online at www.irctc.co.in or www.cleartrip.com or www.yatra.com
Take a flight to Bangalore from New Delhi as there is no Agra-Bangalore flight. Go for Kingfisher or Spicejet flights, they are good. Checkout www.ixigo.com.
