Cycling in the North-east states
Hi -
I need some suggestions on a short 6-7 day cycling trip in the North East states (last minute trip, so I'd like to leave as soon as possible - Sat, preferable).
I've been trying to do my research but there is very little written from the point of view of cycling, in terms of roads, traffic, places to get food en route, etc.
Essentially, I'm looking at a route that is approx 300-400km or so, with places to stop every 80-100km (for flat lands) or 50-70km (for hilly terrain). I can carry my tent and pitch it as well, but getting food/water would be nice. Also, it'd be nice to cycle through nice landscape - forests, picturesque villages, etc.
And of course, safety, in terms of not getting caught up in the local political unrest.
I was thinking of going from Imphal to Aizwal, and then from Aizwal to Silchar.
Another option would be to start from Tezpur and then cycle down to Imphal.
Do either of these options meet my requirements? Any other alternatives? Going to Tawang might be an option as well, provided I can get my permit in Tezpur in a day or so.
Thanks!

I wouldnt say its a good idea to go on cycle in mizoram, manipur or nagaland. I know a person who did a solo bike trip across those places and atleast once he came across drunk guys who tried to loot him in mizoram. Since he was on the bike he managed to flee. Also in one of the places the roads were bad and he got stuck in the mud and the army guys helped him but not before telling that he was lucky to have not been looted or killed till now. I'm talking about the remote landscapes and not within the cities here. Please take that into account before you travel your trip.-KRR
