Comments on itinerary please
Hi everyone,
My girlfriend & I are planning our first trip to India – in fact we have already booked & paid for our flights. Im hoping that all the IMers out there can give us some advice on our proposed itinerary We flight in from Sri Lanka to Trivandrum in early March and fly out from Delhi in early May – we have 62 days on the ground and would like to see as much as possible, but reading some earlier posts I have got the impression that we may be pushing it a bit with our schedule. I would appreciate any comments on the itinerary: Arrive Trivandrum (1 day) Varkala Beach (1 day) Kollam (1 day) Alappuzha (1 day) Cochin (2 days) Travel to Goa (1 day via train) Goa (5 days) Travel to Hampi (1 day) Hampi (2 days) Travel to Hyderabad (1 day) Hyderabad (1 day) Travel to Aurangabad (1 day) Ellora Caves (1 day) Travel to Jhansi (1 day) Orchha (1 day) Travel to Khajuraho (1 day) Khajuraho (1 day) Travel to Varanasi (1 day) Varanasi (3 days) Travel to Agra (1 day) Agra (1 day) Travel to Jaipur (1 day) Jaipur (2 days) Travel to Ranthambhore Nat Park (1 day) Ranthambhore Nat Park (1 day) Travel to Pushkar (1 day) Pushkar (1 day) Ajmer (1 day) Travel to Udaipur (1 day) Udaipur (2 days) Travel to Jodhpur (1 day) Jodhpur (2 days) Travel to Jaisalmer (1 day) Jaisalmer (2 days) Travel to Bikaner (1 day) Bikaner (1 day) Travel to Delhi (1 day) Delhi (3 days) Travel to Shimla (1 day) Shimla (1 day) Travel to Manali (1 day) Manali (2 day) Travel to Delhi Fly out Many thanks |

I think you should be breaking the day in Kollam to half extra day to see the periphery of Trivandrum (like padmanabhapuram palace) and probably extra some time in Varkala. Kollam actually has nothing to offer other than to act as a boarding point to Kollam-Alleppey boat ride. But if you are actually taking a house boat trip in Alleppey, then it does not make sense to take the Kollam -Alleppey boat ride (was quite boring after a while with too many tourists)
Dont see any major hassles with the rest of the trip you have shown. Check my old thread under the Kerala header. Kerala Tips

A nice trip, but a lot of travelling / connections etc,,,,,,,,
Don't fall into the trap of not enjoying where you are today by thinking about how you're going to get to where you want to be tomorrow,,,,,,,, Unless you've got a special reason to stay in Ajmer skip it & spend both nights in Pushkar. Just my 8 annas worth. |

Wow!
You really want to see everything. But I'm afraid that if you're travelling at this pace you will actually miss the feeling of India. Of course you have to do things the way you want, but I would actually skip half of the places. At least. India is a country where life is slow-going, and I honestly think travelling this fast will exhaust you more than enrich you. But I suggest you start your itinerary, and let your experiences decide how you want to travel. Good luck! C |

Hi there
Hi ant.
Nice to meet you. I feel it is a long trip. if you want really enjoy your trip please remove 2 or 3 unimportant places. your trip is from march to may. it is shunshine time in India. Shimla Manali will feel cool. for long distances the train is good for you , for interstate travelling a/c car will be good for you. with love Indu Last edited by Alan D : Nov 24th, 2004 at 15:46. |

Yes - I have to admit to feeling that this itinerary was a little ambitious! What places would you suggest we remove? I'm thinking we should perhaps free up a bit of time around Jhansi and Khajuraho and cut out these places?
