Talking Chennai to Mumbai, 8 days, (Relatively) Budget

Hi all!

First of all, I think this is an awesome forum! Thanks to all who have actively contributed!

I'll be heading to Chennai late this month (April 2008), and will need to make my way to Mumbai by early May. Basically, I have about 8 days to travel and would love to make the most out of this opportunity!

Here's what I'm hoping to see or do, (and thus the reason why I need help!)
- Breath-taking sceneries, something closer to nature;
- Beautiful architectures;
- And perhaps go for some crazy shopping! Haha..

I'd love to keep this trip as budget as possible. (Just a poor student, lol..)

Would appreciate any help! Thank you!

It is summer.

Still, Hampi may be a good idea, and even Goa. Be prepared for the heat though.
Shopping, either Chennai or Mumbai.

Take it from me... if you want to shop then spend some time in Mumbai. Definately check out InOrbit mall in Malad. This is an amazing mall with great stores, you'll love it. Also if you are interested in jewlery, check out the gold market near Gateway of India. Also be sure to check out Colaba Causeway near Gateway of India as well. This was a great place to find more traditional things. I also personally love the shoe market in Bandra. There is a huge selection of Khussa shoes and sandles and also purses and bags. Just be ready to wheel and deal for a bargain!

If you want shopping, I'm your girl! :-)

Thanks everyone for the reply!

I'm still figuring out where to visit, and how to get around actually. Haha. Pardon me, I've been stuck in Singapore my entire life so India is a bit tough for a start.

After discussing with my travel companion, I've decided on..
Chennai (That's where we'll be flying to)
Puducherry
Bangalore
Mysore
Mumbai

Not too sure how we're actually going to get from one place. Any advice? Thanks!

Venkat83, I'll only reach Chennai on 28th! Haha..

Well, its pretty easy.
Chennai to Puducherry(also called as Pondicherry) is just a few hours away. You can either go in the state run bus or take a taxi and go there. Its just a couple of hours of drive along the beautiful East Coast road ( I keep going on this road )

After that either you can go to Bangalore from there or come back to Chennai and either take a flight/train or bus.

Bangalore to Mysore is again a beautiful road. Do not miss the Mysore Palace.

You can go to Mumbai from Bangalore by flight or go along the west coast and reach Mumbai , via Karwar and Goa.
