| Member | Chennai to Agra 5 days Hello, I am planning on traveling from Chennai to Agra and back beginning on February 24 (10 pm train) and returning back to Chennai on March 1st. I understand that the travel time one way is approximately 30 hours. So, I will have about 2.5 days to look around. I have a friend that will be accompanying me and his budget is around 5000 INR for the entire trip. The train will only cost 1042 INR (sleeper class). I have several questions: 1. I want to see the Taj Mahal, besides that what else can I do while there? 2. What is the weather like in late February, early March in that part of the country. I was in Chennai last March and it was really hot around that time. If it will be cool in Delhi, I may consider taking the sleeper class to Delhi and the AC car on the way back. That would save around 1000 INR for each of us. 3. Any recommendations on a place to stay that is clean and cheap? I don't need anything fancy, just a place to sleep and take a shower (clean please, no roaches/bugs crawling around the room). 4. I read another post where someone said you can rent bikes there. Does anyone know how much the bikes cost? Any input would be greatly appreciated. -Chris Last edited by homerpunita; Jan 25th, 2009 at 22:36.. |

| Member | Hey Santos, Thanks for the answering my questions. After re-reading my post, I guess I was not clear about what I was asking. Since my friend has a budget of only 5000 rupees, I was considering traveling in a non air conditioned compartment of the train on the way back to Chennai. I am riding sleeper class on the way to Agra since I was told it should be cool (at least for India) there and we will be starting from Chennai at night. I am just unsure if I should ride sleeper class back to Chennai or pay 1000 INR extra for the 3rd class ac. -Chris |

| @Chris, February will be pleasant and my only suggestion on Delhi -Chennai train travel is ,Try & reserve "Tamilnadu Express" and even in sleeper Class it will be ok as it just has very limited stops and takes 5 hours less than the Grand Trunk express . I did travelled in II Sleeper [Non A/c] around 6 times in this train and it's manageable . In Other trains, [LEaving Rajdhani kind of trains], Day time it will get uncomfortable as "Unreserved Passengers" will also get into II Sleeper and also sit in the reserved carriages . Hope this helps Velu |

| I think you will be travelling by tamilnadu express(2621) and this train arrives at agra somewhere around 4 am 26th feb. 26th feb = Agra 27th feb = Visit mathura, vrindhavan and travel to jaipur 28th feb = jaipur 1st march = jaipur to agra to catch the chennai train. This is the time to visit north as the climate will be cold, examination time for children therefore less crowded. Enjoy your trip. |

No matter how you travel You will have to spend a day in sleeper class.no escape from day's heat.train starts at night(both at chennai or agra) and travels throughout next day reaches the next day morning(agra or chennai).simply put travelling time is 32 hrs. | |
