Karnataka is my favourite and Hampi, Belur, Halebid, Sravanabelagola, Somnathpur, Mysore, Srirangapattina, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Aihole, Pattadakkal, Badami, Bijapur and Gokarna are some of the must see places in this state. I have been there almost during the monsoons when the rains were just starting so it was a beautiful experience with the lightning and first showers making these temple towns really wonderful to see and photograph too. In Hampi we had a huge storm and there was no electricity for two days due to an overhead wire snapping, so there was no electricity to pump up the water and it was quite an experience but still worth it!!!

Cheers,
Aadil.

Yes, there are hardly any good hotels around but you will find smaller places offering minimal facilities at cheap prices and some of them are pretty good and clean too. The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) has it's Mayura Hotels in most of the places and they are mostly pretty good and cheap too. The one in Belur was really good though the one in Badami was not so clean and cheap!!! Stay at the Mookambika Hotel in Badami for a clean and cheap place with excellent food too.

Cheers,
Aadil.

I have been several times moving around in Karnataka and no problem at all about accommodation. Last month stayed in Bidar in Hotel Krishna Regency and in Bijapur in hotel Madhuvan and both are ok especially Madhuvan. In Badami you have a couple of hotels good enough like Badami Court, in Belur KSTDC Hotel is a good option, no problem at all in Hampi, Hassan, Hospet, even in Sravanabelagola a lot of dharamshalas etc..., don't worry about accommodation.

For the monsoon probably I'll not visit Karnataka because as I said I've been very recently a couple of times.
