chardham itinerary- suggestions and Guidance required

I have come up with a draft itinerary for a tour to the chardham for my parents. this is in mid may. Please help me in finalizing this keeping in mind i am looking for some good clean accomodations. Also please help me in understanding if i am trying to cover too much in a day as i understand that though the distances are less the actual travel time is more as the road is in a mountian terrain. The distances and approx times are based on what mapmyindia gave- might not be very realistic at times.

day 1 - new delhi-haridwar approx dist 208.75 Km approx time 6 hrs 10 min

day 2 - haridwar- barkot 168.92 Km 4 hrs 49 min

day 3 barkoat-yamnotri-barkot 32 kms 5 hrs 1 min
comments- is there good clean accomodation available in yamnotri or do we need to stay at barkot
day 4 yamnotri/barkot- uttarkashi 80.92 Km 2 hrs 18 min

day 5 uttarkashi-gangotri 90 kms 2 hrs 30 min
comments- want to cover gangotri and gomukh, is any good clean accomodation available in gangotri? or do we need to come back to uttarkashi for night halt.

day 6 uttarkashi/gangotri-rudraprayag 167.13 Km 5 hrs 22 min

day 7 rudraprayag-kedarnath 63.63 Km 1 hr 49 min
comments- drive and then trek of 15 kms

day 8 kedarnath-chamoli 105.04 Km 3 hrs 52 min
comments-is it feasible to go to chamoli. How is the accomodation. Or is rudraprayag recommended

day 9 chamoli -badrinath - joshimath 106.79 Km + 40 km 3 hrs 13 min + 1hr
comments-go to badrinath in morning and reach joshi math in later half of the day.
Should the halt be in rudraprayag. how much is it feasible to be made in a day.

day 10 joshimath-rishikesh 258.30 Km 7 hrs 25 min
comments- would this be too long and tiring. Can rishikesh be done on the same day need to add an extra day here?

day 11 rishikesh-delhi 240.17 Km 7 hrs 9 min
comments- i assume rishikesh can be done on this mornign too before departing to delhi.

also suggest accomodations in the locations above which i can book online or contact online.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Note- Mods I know I have a similar thread running, but did not get any responses in that particular section. Need some suggestions from experts so I can finalize my tour. Please delete one if required.

I have visited Badrinath and Kedarnath, but that was years ago... so cant really help you out... have you tried garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVNL) for the arrangements?? i have heard that their accomodoation arrangements are rather good....... we too are planning a trip, and have made an itinerary similar to yours... do let me know if yours works out, for our plan is for later this year, or next year....

Hello new traveller
I am a senior citizen and I have done the trip thrice.
I think I can help you
Day 2 Instead of Barkot you can stay in Sayanachatti.Good hotels are available.GMVNL also has a place there. The Janaki chatti option I won't advice
Day 4 makr it to uttar kashi
I do not know the age of your parents I am 67 and I was advised against it.In Gangotri GMVNL has good accomodation. There are two privete hotels opp the temple with clean rooms
Day 9 Make a halt at Josimath if you want. You cannot go to Badri and come back on the same day unless you start from Josimath at the time of the first gate.
If you want to book on line GMVNL is the best.Leisure Hotels Chardham Camps are also there.

Thanks, guys.
the problem with GMVNL is they local office in pune says I need to book a package. Now I know I can manage for the car and stuff , I just need the accomodations. but they have the guts to give an official answer as no bookings unless you take a package

Tried calling the mumbai GMVNL office and they say since its may/june the bookings are done centrally at the Rishikesh (Yatra Office). Mailed them a while ago, awaiting their reply.

I will check the Leisure Hotels Chardham Camps. (the camps some how sound like dormitories, I was hoping for some clean comfortable private rooms)

online booking is not allowed- for some odd reason. I think this is because may/june is some kind of peek season for them. they want to manage it manually via the rishikesh office- how progressive

day 1 - new delhi-haridwar approx dist 208.75 Km approx time 6 hrs 10 min
Leave delhi early morning so that you can reach haridwar by lunch time and later you can visit temples, dont miss the evening arathi at har ki pauri.
day 2 - haridwar- barkot 168.92 Km 4 hrs 49 min
If you have plans to visit kempty falls then barkot is ok and barkot has one of the best hotels on the yamanotri route. If you are not planning to visit kempty falls then I advice you to travel further upto syanachatti/humanchatti/janakichatti so that the next day travel is leisurely done.
Gmvnl hotels are basic ones with neat rooms and toilets.

day 3 barkoat-yamnotri-barkot 32 kms 5 hrs 1 min
comments- is there good clean accomodation available in yamnotri or do we need to stay at barkot
The are only 2 options in yamanotri, gmvnl and temple rooms. I advice you not to stay in yamanotri.
day 4 yamnotri/barkot- uttarkashi 80.92 Km 2 hrs 18 min
If you stay in janakichatti you can visit yamanotri and travel to utterkashi the same day. I did this with my father in law aged 67 and hear patient.
day 5 uttarkashi-gangotri 90 kms 2 hrs 30 min
comments- want to cover gangotri and gomukh, is any good clean accomodation available in gangotri? or do we need to come back to uttarkashi for night halt.
you have gmvnl, temple rooms and some private dharmashals in gangotri and these are below average rooms especially gmvnl. You cannot travel from utterkashi to gangotri-gomukh the same day, you need one more day for this.
day 6 uttarkashi/gangotri-rudraprayag 167.13 Km 5 hrs 22 min
You can travel to sitapur or gaurikund or guptakashi so that the next days journey becomes easy.
rudraprayag has the best hotels on this route.
day 7 rudraprayag-kedarnath 63.63 Km 1 hr 49 min
comments- drive and then trek of 15 kms
The journey from rudraprayag to gaurikund will take around 2 hours, then you have to take a bath at gaurikund, it took around 4 hours for us to reach kedar. I advice you to travel as close by to gaurikund and start early the next day so that you can reach kedar early
day 8 kedarnath-chamoli 105.04 Km 3 hrs 52 min
comments-is it feasible to go to chamoli. How is the accomodation. Or is rudraprayag recommended
You have to start kedar early in the morning to reach chamoli. You need not travel thru rudraprayag instead you can travel tru chopta.
day 9 chamoli -badrinath - joshimath 106.79 Km + 40 km 3 hrs 13 min + 1hr
comments-go to badrinath in morning and reach joshi math in later half of the day.
Should the halt be in rudraprayag. how much is it feasible to be made in a day.
It will be impossible for you to travel to badrinath and reach joshimath in one single day.
day 10 joshimath-rishikesh 258.30 Km 7 hrs 25 min
comments- would this be too long and tiring. Can rishikesh be done on the same day need to add an extra day here?
joshimath to rishikesh is doable in one single day but a bit tirable.
day 11 rishikesh-delhi 240.17 Km 7 hrs 9 min
comments- i assume rishikesh can be done on this mornign too before departing to delhi.

also suggest accomodations in the locations above which i can book online or contact online.

Thanks a lot in advance.

thanks n kumar and pibikay.
After a lot of discussions and reading we have finally decided to do this.

The itinerary is something like this-
day 1 - haridwar
day 2 - hanuman chaati
day 3 - yamnotri-barkot
day 4 - gangotri
day 5 - bhojwasa
day 6 - harsil
day 7 - srinagar/new tehri
day 8 - gaurikund
day 9 - kedarnath halt
day 10 - chopta
day 11 - badrinath/joshimath
day 12 - auli
day 13 - rishikesh

this is just about the tentative night halt. I say tentative as we have made a daring move. Not to do any bookings in advance but go and find some rooms once there.
Are we taking a too big a risk? I mean in terms of availaibility of 2 rooms? I hope my parents wont be in a situation where there are no rooms but have to stay in some tents

There are 2 reasosn behind this
1. GMVNL not giving us only room bookings and wants to sell their whole package which is not really worth the offer.
2. They have the flexibility to modify their plan a bit if they like to stay in a particular place.

thanks folks, yes i do have kept some space in between as my parents might plan to go to gomukh or that they can have an extra day if required.

But how about daring to go without any reservations, qill they find some good clean accomodation on the run?

i have asked them to have a plan B ready in case the plan A does not work. e.g. try for hanumanchatti but if no acco availaible then go for say sayanchati.

book rooms on GMVN

Try booking your rooms on GMVN thro' their website.
I was there to many of these places last month (aug end) and booked them online.
