Car travel Cochin to Hampi -best stopovers?
Travelling by car from Cochin to Hampi, what's the best way to plan this journey? We don't have to rush so we can spend 1-2 days or more at a place enroute.
What are the best places to stopover for the night + anything to see on the way -what beaches are good? Anyone know? |

sm59,
The best way to Hampi is not along the sea coast. Go to the Nilgiri Hills (Coonor, Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary), continue to Mysore - Sravanabelagola - Belur - Halebid and Hampi. Have a nice journey Jorge |

Halebid to Hampi is 310 km or so.
Not too long. 6 hours or so. Part of this is on the national highway, so that should be slightly faster, with hopefully better roads. |

In case you take the coastal route, don't forget Maravante. It is a stretch of road that passes between sea and a river! When you are there, you will know you have to stop!

I have even done Mysore - Hampi by car in a looong day. No short-cuts though, get on the national highway as soon as possible.

sm59,
From Halebid to Hampi is around 300 km via Chitradurga (you can have a look at the impressive Fort in Chitradurga) is a long way for India but starting the journey early in the morning you can be in Hampi in the afternoon. Jorge |
