Hey Welcome to Delhi :

Since this is a NEED TO SEE TRIP, please also look at http://dtc.nic.in/dt3.htm#1

You would cover:

Red Fort
Raj Ghat (India Gate by Pass)
Birla Mandir
Qutab Minar
Lotus Temple
Humanyun's Tomb
Akshardham Temple (Swami Narian Temple)

In one day, from 9:15 to 5:45 on Nov 20

6:00 PM Leave Akshardham Goto Old Fort
7:30 PM Leave Old Fort Goto Nizammuddin Aulia
9:00 PM Leave Nizammudin Aulia Go Back to India Gate for Photo Op
9:45 PM Leave India Gate and take a walk in the Deserted Connaught Place and have dinner / join us for a drink

The bus would drop you at Akshardham Temple.
Take an auto / bus from there and goto the Old Fort and from the old fort goto Nizzammudin Aulia, spend a little time there and then go back to India Gate for a short hop and then Connaught Place and spend the evening there.

Nov 19

Reach Hotel around 12 Noon
Rest Freshen Up have lunch

2 PM Jantar Mantar
3 PM Drive By CP
3:30 PM Jama Masjid (it takes a while to experience and see Jama Masjid)
Spend the rest of the evening browsing the by lanes of OLD Delhi

Nov 21

You can catch up with any or a few of the following if they interest you

a) Gurdwara Bangla Sahib (near CP) You haven't seen a Sikh Place of Worship on this trip Have you ?
b) Jamali Kamali and Balbans Tomb
c) Safdarjungs Tomn
d) Lodi Gardens
e) Begum Samru's Palace in Old Delhi ( I haven't been here either)
f) The Rail Museum (worth a visit)
g) Tughlakabad Fort.

It would help if you opted to NOT stay in Karol Bagh. Why not stay at the Ginger near the New Delhi Station (you are then connected by the metro)

If you leave your hotel at 5:00 PM you should make it on time to the airport with about 2 1/2 hours to spare..

Airport: get there before 2035 (3 hrs before for international flight).

I will revert on this ONCE more, please figure out where you are staying and will try and run this through again.

Nice Tour

Thank you very much nikhilsegel.

I'm going to plan on taking that day tour that you mention. That's really cheap too. I guess you still have to pay your own entry fees into some of those places though... You mention leaving Akshardham after about 15 min? is that site easy to see in 15 mins? Also, will the darkness of evening and night time negatively (or positively) affect visiting some of those sites after the tour?

I'm not sure which hotel I will be able to get a room at. I'm planning on calling some places a few days in advance of when I will arrive at a city/town... to try to book my room. The only place I have booked right now is my first city (Mumbai). I have a list of about 5 good places for each city/town. I'm hoping that I'll be able to book at at least one of the places in my lists for each stop... Otherwise, you might be getting a call from me about that.

As far as Sikh temples - I am going to Amritsar - there I'll see the Golden Temple. BTW - I'm thinking that, all throughout my whole trip, I may have a few sites that are buildings or monuments that are similar to others that I am planning on seeing. Maybe I should remove the lesser ones from my plans, just so I can relax a little more. Got any suggestions on that?

You have been a ton of help, thank you.

Yes I think you might have to. Yet you would have paid those in any case?
Akshardham is one of those places where you could spend 10 minutes or an entire day. They have some light and sound show which is probably why the bus ends there. You can take a call once you get there!

India Gate, Nizamuddin Aulia, CP and Old fort are all open in the evening too.. (the inside of the old fort is the Zoo, doubt you want to see that!)

Albeit there is a sound and light show at the OLD fort as well ..

You can buy your ticket at the same place you board the BUS for the day tour.

No stress you can just holler when you have it figured out. I am not a huge fan of Karol Bagh.

If you are going to Amritsar, you can drop the Gurdwara in Delhi. I don't think you would repeat much. You must understand at one level a lot of things are similar but they each have their independent virtues and pitfalls!

Don't stress it and have a great trip to India!

Cheers
