Bokkapuram-Cochin

In July 2008 we will travel by car (and driver) from Bokkapuram to Fort Cochin. Travel agent thinks its a nine hours drive (through Sultan Batery and Kalpetta to Calicut and Cochin). Maps show some alternative and appearingly shorter ways (Gudalur/ Malappuram and on...). Is the shortcut a sensible one (travelling in an Ambassador)?

The Gudalur-Nilambur Nadukani ghats are not in a good shape right now. Maybe it will get repaired by July 2008, who knows. On the other hand, July is in the monsoon season...

In my opinion, the best alternative is to go down to Coimbatore via Ooty and then take NH47 all the way to Cochin, but then I don't know what the road conditions in that route are.
Or you can take the route your travel agent suggested, which is also reasonable. The road condition is OK right now.
But all this can change. You need to get up to date info on the conditions.

Thanks again Manojb; of course we will see next year what the conditions of the different roads are. Really looking forward to my fourth South-India trip, this time with my daughter (her first contact with India).
