boat ride down the ganges ?

Has anyone done a long boat ride, living on board, down the Ganges or Betwa or other big river ? Is it possible to float from Varanassi to Culcutta - how long would it take and how would you begin to find a craft and captain ? Whos up for it ?

One can boat from Allahabad to Varanasi in 3 - 4 days, nights spent in tents or in small guest houses near the banks. Travel agencies in Varanasi can organize the same. I would like to do this boat ride some time in future.
