Bikaner to Amritsar on highway 15- advisable???

Still playing around with the mid section of our trip!!! (Itinerary advice welcome here.... Rajasthan 5 weeks 2 adults + child itinerary (mach 1) suggstions and comments please )

I was wondering though about the advisability of considering Bikaner to Amritsar by highway 15.... looking at the map that route goes pretty much along the border.. is this wise with the unrest and so on around the border? Is it safe? Is there somewhere to stay along the way? I'm sure my son would find it the higlight of his trip to be caught up in some kind of conflict or even to be held up.. but his father and I could do without it!!!!!!!!

If we did this, we'd then go Amritsar/Haridwar/Delhi - then to Shekhawati for a day or two.. I was going to spend more time there but the 12 year old is rebelling against more than one day of painted havelis!

This section will somehow cover Amritsar, HAridwar, Delhi and maybe Shekawhati... Have had some great advice in other threads, and the Amritsar/Haridwar Delhi bit looks like a lovely trip!
