gianni66,

Direct train from Varanasi to Chitrakoot always arrives late, for many reasons: is running through a single track and locals "pull the alarm chain" quite often just to stop near their villages and because trains in India are not very much punctuals. I haven't seen taxis in Manikpur station when I was there, and it was late and I was not sure how to reach Chitrakoot, probably they'll send the taxi/jeep from Chitrakoot, and about buses I'm sure they run only during the day. Even if there are lots of people in Allahabad if I travel next from Varanasi to Chitrakoot I'll do by bus from Allahabad. Chitrakoot's RS is in Karwi, more or less 5 km away.

Steven, I've got a different sensation about the people in Chitrakoot, everything with them was almost perfect in a very pleasant atmosphere. I want to come back again in the next years.

I loved the people and the town, I think you've misread one of my posts, I was talking about the monkeys in my first post.

I went back to the train station a few hours before my onward train, then walked a couple of kms to find an internet care (near bus stand), whilst there I got a hair cut and a shave, the man done a fantastic job taking about 30 minutes, then asked for only Rs25.

Jorge, Steven has posted a clear picture of the "people in Chitrakot" he was complaining about... look at it in detail!

If I take the train from Varanasi Jn at 11:30, I should arrive at manikpur at 17:08 (the train originates from Varanasi), so teorically I should be in time to get a bus to Chitrakot before the sunset.

But...

Steven some posts ago adviced that he found that train at Varanasi JN still to depart at 15:00! Such a strong delay (or even a one-two hours delay) could lead me to arrive at Manikpur too late to take a bus...

So if I want to avoid the bus from Allahabad I should take the early train from Mughal Sarai at 8:30 arriving at Manikpur at 13:30, and from Manikpur bus or passenger train (an experience which I have never done before!).

Or...

I take the 11.30 train from Varanasi with a ticket to Manikpur, if the train is late I can decide to stop in Allahabad (scheduled arrival time: 14:40) and from here take the bus to Chitrakot, or at worst spend the night here and move to Chitrakot the day after.

Chambal Express departs from Allahabad on at 8:15 and arrives at Chitrakot at 10:35, it originates from Howrah and follows the MGS route (quite fast and reliable, according to our Train Guru).

I can spend the whole day at Chitrakot and take my overnight train to Agra at 23:15.

Yes... maybe it's the best option...

Steven,

You are right, I misread yr comments about the monkeys (I was doing two things at the same time and probably I'm too old for it).Btw, I've got the same sensation on the way to the fort in Bundi and for the first time in India I went back because I was feeling uncomfortable ( well, in fact I was almost scared).
