Jodhpur is very good with an excellent hilltop Fort. You could spend one night in Jodhpur or even 2 and spend one day touring. http://www.rajasthantourism.gov.in/d...mehrangarh.htm
You don't have to have everything completely planned. I think you already have a good itinerary to work with. You can make a decision on the spot. It's how we spent our month in Rajasthan. Just called ahead to make reservations when we decided to move on, though sometimes it took several calls to get a hotel. Bring some kind of guidebook. There are many to choose from. There is a small family-owned hotel in Jodhpur called the Hotel Haveli Inn Pal (Pal is the family name, it does not mean "palace" as our guidebook mistakenly said) where we spent 6 nights (3 before Jaisalmer and 3 after) which is very nice if you take one of the upstairs rooms with air-conditioning. http://www.haveliinnpal.com/ |

For my 2rp worth, I'd drop Jaipur & go instead from Agra => Orchha => Khajuraho.
From Khaj. you can either fly or bus/train to Varanasi & take a train from Varanasi => Delhi. Taking this route, you'll get to see some awesome sites (and sights). To help you plan your locations, have a look at this on-line map, it will give you an indication of the proximities of the various cities that you are considering. www.mapmyindia.com Cheers Zoltan

What would be the train station closest to Karol Bagh in Dehli? There are so many of these train stations there... I need this urgently, as I am right now in the process of buying tickets online!
Thanks! |

Others may want to correct me, but from checking the web, it appears to be just a few kms. from New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS), which would then seem a safe bet. The two are connected by subway I believe (I think this requires one stopover, it's just four stops). --> http://www.delhimetrorail.com/commuters/route_map.html

S Rohilla is probably closest to Karol bagh, but New Delhi Railway Station is not so far either. I would go for any one of them.

I see, you mean given the choice between those two, eh. Sorry, I don't know the city by heart that well. (Is Delhi station the same as Delhi Junction?) I think Cantt. is further away yes, but I can't say which would be preferable, also traffic-wise. I suppose either would be fine, these days people seem to be mostly concerned about getting a ticket at all!

DLI is old Delhi station. And yes, if no NDLS or Rohilla, this is preferable to Cantt, from Karol bagh. I believe DLI is well connected by Metro to the New Delhi and Rohilla stations which are close to Karol Bagh. Never been, though. |

Well, too late, trip planned. I was not interested in mountains anyway, and my plans for the India trip are weighted "for" by certain other serious factors (work, tickets).
Thanks for the info, anyway. I hope as a person from Central Asia, I am more or less prepared for the heat... It stays 40 'C in the summer here too... although quite arid. I hope the heat in Jaipur, Jodpur, Delhi and Agra is not going to be humid... |
