Aurangabad-Hampi-Mysore Travel Questions
We'll be visiting the above in early November. I've checked several guidebooks and there don't appear to be any tourist buses direct from Aurangabad to Hampi/Hospet. The best I could come up with is to travel by overnight train to Hyderabad and then another overnighter to Hospet. While I don't mind spending a few days in Hyderabad, I'd like to know if there's a better and quicker way to get to Hampi without detouring through Hyderabad.
Also, upon leaving Hampi, we'd like to take a tourist bus directly to Mysore. Again, no info in the guidebooks on such a bus. The best plan I've come up with is to fly into Bangalore and then take an express train to Mysore. Is anyone aware of a bus between Hampi and Mysore or another means of getting to Mysore without going through Bangalore? I should point out that I'll do anything to avoid an overnight bus trip, so if buses exist on the above routes, I would prefer to travel between 6AM and Midnight. |

http://www.indiatransit.com/ is a useful site for road transport networks. mapmyindia.com is not very accurate but gives a reasonable idea about road routes. To cut costs, stay at the Karnataka govt run Hotel Mayura chain of hotels in Karnataka www.kstdc.nic.in/ They are basic but clean, well located, modestly priced and usually serve excellent meals. |

Thanks for the info. I did try contacting Direct to Driver regarding the Aurangabad-Hampi trip, but they claimed to not have any drivers in Aurangabad. I'll pursue this idea further through a travel agent.

Your options from Hampi to Mysore.
1. Fly to Bangalore and take a train. Not recommended. Commute to airport - 2 hours + commute from airport to train station - 2 hours + flying time 30 minutes. Add waiting time for train and you will look like a fool. 2. Take a cab all the way to Mysore. Travel time - approx 8 hours. 3. Take a train from Hospet to Bangalore. Most comfortable option. Switch over to a train to Mysore. If there are no immediate trains from Bangalore, take a bus that leaves every 15 minutes. Travel time - approx 8 + 2.5 hours. 4. It is very likely that there will be a direct bus or two in the night to Mysore. Only way to find out is to inquire at the Bus Stand once you get to Hospet. Alternatively you can take a bus to Bangalore and switch over to another bus to Mysore. Travel time - 8 + 2.5 hours. |

Sleeper Class details & photos. Ahmadnagar (sp?) is 100kms south of Aurangabad (said to be good place to visit), you can get an overnight train (Maharastra Exp) to Solapur, then a bus or train to Bijapur and/or Badami (line to Badami will open soon), then a bus to Hospet. I seem to remember a way to get an overnight train from Ahmadnagar direct to Bijapur (3 days a week) by changing at Daud Jn (sp), but have no info with me to check. Also look for Ahmadnagar-Raichur train (though I think there are only well times trains in one direction, can't remember what way), you can get a bus from Raichur to Hospet (about 3 hours). Also look fro trains from Pune to Bijapur or Raichur, I think Pune is about 5 hours by bus from Aurangabad. After all this confusing info, I bet Hyderabad is starting to sound good. ![]()

Yeah, I think I'll take the plunge and go thru Hyderabad, then try to arrange a taxi to Mysore from Hampi. Based on the sample costs in synonymous' links, it'll probably be less expensive and quicker than flying/taking the train plus I'd rather see India on the ground anyways. Thanks to all who took the time to respond. I appreciate it!

I've done Mysore to Hampi by car twice: start early as it's a long day and stay on the national road as long as possible. I once had a driver who tried a short-cut....
You will have to pay for the return trip of the driver.
