andaman trip

Hi,

Hope you folks can help me out.

I am planning to visit andamans in Jan 2007 for 5 days.Coming to the information i need:

1) Could you recommend any budget hotels or paying guest accomadation in portblair. My budget -RS500 to RS1500 max per day.

2)Is it a good decision to travel by ship from Chennai to Port Blair. We are travelling in a group of 4. I havent set foot on a ship my whole life

3) I also need some info on some good places to visit in Andamans but i will search first and then come and disturb you.

It would be really helpful if you could give me some info.

Cheers
Sony

Port blair hotels

Ship takes around 3 - 4 days to reach Port Blair. Plus the facilities are not that good. Also because of Air Deccan the air fares are very much reasonable compared to ship fares. Unless you have a very good liking for the sea (& have that much time to spare) you can travel by Ship otherwise fly.

Hi, we are a family of 4 also planning to visit the Andamans in November, do you have any tips for booking the domestic flights? They seem quite expensive. We are not sure where we will stay yet either, we have been reading through reviews of the many hotels on Havelock.

There is no cheap way to get to the Andamans other than by ship

Can you tell us a bit more about your budget, what you are looking for, etc. so we can point you in the right direction.

Hi SueJ, we will have to fly. I just wondered whether there were some cheaper domestic flights, as we are looking at paying over GBP800 for 4 of us. Many thanks

I am now researching accomodation 1. Budget Hotels (moi )

All suggestions re: hotels and must see places would be greatfully appreciated

Wow, thanks for this info. It seems really cheap compared to the quotes we have had.

There is another thread on here for the Andamans with more accommodation info, IM'er Martinez has posted information. We are also still looking at accommodation. We have the 2 kids to consider; but I think basic on a beach should be enough. Will let you know how we get on.

I really liked visiting the cellular jail/ross island and wandoor np all around Pb. I know lots of folk just leave PB immediately to get to the islands but I really liked Port Blair and the places around it.

Britishraj - That looks like a brilliant deal. Did you book online? I've just looked at the website and they only seem to let you book 'from' UK airports. Or maybe as part of a bigger itinerary?

Goingback - can you give some idea of your budget, may be able to provide better info if I know that.

JAYEETA MAJUMDER and goingback
if you guys haven't already booked your trip, I suggest you move it to December. 2 years ago, we were due to visit in November, due to some other issues we moved it to December. We were quite lucky as mid to end November was plagued by heavy wind and rains. November may not be the best time, you never know how the weather turns out. December is a safe bet.

Details of contact

Hi Suej
I have booked the Flight Tickets ONLY with www.affordableholidays.co.uk you can contact Roger 0871 855 4487 and mention my name Mr.Kane.

I have checked out all the other threads on the Andamans and got some very useful tips so my prog. is taking shape.

I'm going with two sisters and a neice who will stay in AC Only and expect to pay Rs.3000 per night. As for myself, I'm kinda India-Anna Jones adventurer so expect to pay Rs.400 and share with a better class of cockroaches. I think we will just arrive and be on God's Good Humour as we go.

All suggestions welcome

Haemish

Have done more research, we are going to be paying INR52,000 for all 4 flights Kolkata-Port Blair-Kolkata.

We want to stay in one room as a family and expect to pay INR3,000 per night.

We are unsure whether to stay on Neil or Havelock.
