I think bus the only option.
dharamsala also has a airport. you can take a flight to Dharamsala from Delhi - Jagson airlines is the only airlines that operates on this route. Google for Jagson and you will be able to get information you need. There are no timings as such. you must go to the bus stop and enquire as to when the next bus will leave. And, then book for a ticket. |

Hi
Seeing as there are 9 of you, you could easily book 2 luxury 4x4 taxis, probs for less than $100 (? what does anyone else think the fare would be?). It would be handy if you can contact a good hotel in Amritsar or travel agency to get them to reserve something for you, allthough you'd be able to organise something even from the taxi rank at the train station. |

I have a reliable person in Amritsar who can hook you up. He will either get you taxis or bus info/tix, whatever you need. Either let me know here, or PM me, and I will give you his info. I have been to Amritsar many times, and used his services on many occasions.

This is who I use in Amritsar, and always treats me right. You can try emailing him about what you need. Tell him 'Himat Singh with the Swedish lady friend' sent you.

Get the train to Pathankot then get the bus. Thats what we did and it was def the most amusing train journey I've ever had. My boyfriend was chatted up by a eunoch for half the trip. We were going to Dalhousie but there's a bus to Dharamsala from Pathankot. We were advised by a chap we met in the golden temple that that was the way he would travel - it was cheap, it took hours, but it was memorable.

Hey Thanks...JayBee...but changing the mode of transport would pose a great problem for us since we are now 16 of us...Moreover,we are even short of time...we will be leaving from Amritsar on 21st May night and have to reach Manali on the 23rd after spending a day(22nd)in Dharamshala...since 23rd is our reporting day(trek)...so sort of pressed in that respect too...do u think your plan is still feasible???
Hey Sadhu...that guy replied to my e-mail...he was quoting 9000 for 9 people...i have asked my friends to consider the option...lets see what they have to say...anyways,thanks... |

Everyone is correct but I think TAXI will be fine and comfortable.
It is not a easy and short journey and you will be tired by the time you reach AMRITSAR. TAXI will be fine. |

I'm thinking of flying into Amritsar next January and going to McLeod Ganj myself - so Taxi's are an option - what's the cost? We paid around RS2000 to go from Shimla to Dharamasala last year.

Well if you are sixteen of you..I would advice you to book a tempto traveller or couple of innovas...
because to manage so many people, buses and local transport becomes a headache...and in so many people the cost of booking a verhicle would not be high on her head basis.. |
