Amritsar-Dharamsala-Manali itinerary advice

Hello indiamike friends,

I'm going to be in Amritsar next weekend. I'll be leaving Amritsar on Sunday, June 1st. I'm taking a course in Dharamsala that starts on June 9th, which leaves me with a week to plan.

Some ideas, in no particular order:
1) Go from Amritsar to Manali, stay in Manali for a few days, then head down to Dharamsala and arrive a few days before my course starts

2) Go from Amritsar to Chandigarh for a few days, then up to Dharamsala.

3) Go directly from Amritsar to Dharamsala and spend a week there chilling out and taking day trips. (I also understand there are lots of courses and such to take there, which I could find upon arrival.)

I would welcome any thoughts on the above options, as well as ideas for different itineraries.

If you've never been to either location, I'd suggest you head over to Amritsar, spend 1-2 days at the Golden Temple (it's an amazing place to visit) and then move on over to Dharamsala to look around that area before your course starts.

There's sufficient to keep most first-timers to the area occupied for up to a week.

I think it makes no sense to move from Amritsar back towards Chadigarh. You can spend 1-2 days at Amritsar and then move to Dharamshala or spend a few days around Dalhousie

Thanks everyone. I've decided to go from Amritsar directly to Dharamsala. Since I've signed up for a couple of courses there (and will be occupied much of the time), I also want some time to check out the area.

I'm going to do a separate post about buses from Amritsar to Dharamsala, but if anyone on this thread knows about them, I'd welcome any info!
